Regards!
John Redfield Lt. Governor of Division 22/24
It is with great honor that I am announcing the beginning of the Key Club school year! Summer may have left us brain-dead and lazy, but now is the time to act and get involved in our communities! The beginning of the school year is also a great time to gather more members for Key Club, so that we can all grow big and strong as the leading volunteer organization for high schoolers in North Seattle. This month, watch out for upcoming news about division-wide fundraisers to promote stability and success for each club. The money raised will go either to the Eliminate Project or to help schools with DCON expenses. This year’s DCON is going to be in Seattle, so it is imperative that each school can send members to represent our entire student body. The more, the merrier! Also, please prepare for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. It is highly recommended that every club participates!
I will start club visits next week, and I am so excited to be seeing all of you. You represent the future of service, the future of selfless passion to make this world a better place. Together, we can impact not only our local communities, but the world around us. Let us not be held back by those who judge us because we are young, but let us show that our generation is a loving, hardworking, and passionate one that will be a light to lead the way in the future!
September Divisional Council Meeting
Date and Time: Saturday, September 28th; 3:00pm
Location: To Be Determined
For our next Divisional Council Meeting, we will be focusing on
officer and committee chair training. This won’t be intensive, but
it will be imperative that every officer from each school attend so
that they have a clear idea of their duties throughout the school
year.
Also, we will be discussing preparing for Trick or Treat for UNICEF
and Key Club Week. Key Club Week this year is November 4th thru
the 8th. I will discuss more about Key Club Week when I visit your
school and I will share more about it through the October
Newsletter.
When I visit your schools this month, I will take a rough estimate of
how many boxes I will need to order for Trick or Treat for UNICEF.
Please try going in groups of no more than five, because you will
cover more ground that way and be far more successful than if
you were to travel as one huge mass.
We will also be discussing to prepare for our 5k service projects
(Green Lake Gobble Run, Jingle Bell Run, etc.) and service
projects with Mary’s Place for women and children in downtown
Seattle.
I hope to see you all come out for the DCM! It’ll be a great time,
and even greater if we have a lot of people!

Here is what the September schedule looks like for school
visits. I hope you are all excited for your first meetings, as I am
excited to see you and to get to know all of you! For those
who are new, welcome to Key Club! It’s going to be a great
year!
Official Newsletter of PNW Division 22/24 5
Welcome back from Summer! Let’s
get back into action and remember
this year’s
Vision
1) More active involvement
2) More joint opportunities
3) More spirit!
What do I mean by more active involvement? This year I hope to work with the presidents,
vice presidents, and bulletin editors of each school to ensure that the awareness level of
Key Club remains at an all time high. We need to show the world that we’re the biggest
and the best service club ever!! If you have any suggestions how to better the active
membership of Key Clubs in schools, or need any help raising membership levels, please
keep in close contact with me!
I want each of our schools to foster the belief that our clubs are part of one great family:
Division 22/24. There may be some rivalry between schools, but rivalry cannot be
condoned between our clubs! This year, I hope to provide as many joint volunteer
opportunities as possible. In doing so, I want to bridge the progressively growing gap
between our schools so that we can realize that we’re all working together. Let’s put our
differences behind us and make a great foundation for years to come!
This year we won the spirit stick. It was a great honor, and a great privilege. The spirit stick
was a reminder of our boundless passion that we have for our Key Clubs. However, we
must move further and show that we will have as much spirit in the upcoming year as we
did in the last. To start this “Spirit Campaign”, I will be designing several clothing items for
our division, and based on interests levels you guys can help me to decide what to order.
We will also have a joint gathering to decorate our spirit stick. Keep an eye out for
updates as this process unfolds!
What is the Eliminate Project?
What is Maternal/Neo-natal Tetanus (MNT)?
Whose lives are at stake?
The Eliminate Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to terminate MNT
on an international basis
In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can
quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine
minutes. Its effects are excruciating– tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful
convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of
survival. And tetanus kills mothers too.
MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil, come into contact with open
cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the
geographically hard to reach and those without health care.
What can we do to help? Through annual events such as Eliminate Week and simpler events such as
bake sales or car washes, we can fundraise to help eradicate and eliminate
MNT. A measly amount of $1.80 is enough to save the life of a mother and her
newborn child. Don’t hesitate! Let’s start fundraising today!!
Presidents, if you have money for the Eliminate Project, please send it in
person so that I can give it to the District Governor! Thank you!

On the topic of the Eliminate Project…
One of the best ways you can help out right now is to gather your friends and
fellow Key Club members to take part in this year’s Trick or Treat for UNICEF!
You can check out the website, www.trickortreatforunicef.org, and see how you
can get involved! I will be ordering the boxes, but if you need more you can
email campaign@theeliminateproject.org or call (317) 217-6213.
All proceeds
will go to the
Eliminate
Project! This is
an easy and
fun way to help
eradicate
maternal and
neonatal
tetanus!
Impact your
community,
impact your
world!
