4th May 2018 Newsletter No. 085
It has been another very busy fortnight here at school, which you can read about below.
Well done especially to all of Year 5 who had a very happy and successful school journey to Dalesdown this week.
It has been a very special week here at St Dunstan’s as we saw six of our Year 6 children confirmed into the church by The Right Revd Jonathan Clark, Bishop of Croydon. Huge congratulations to Peter Bennett, Hannah Cook, Charles Dennington, Eboni Kennedy, Joshua Thorne and David Williams. It was a beautiful service and we are all so proud of you!
Within the next fortnight Year 6 will be sitting their SATs. Our prayers are with them and we all wish them GOOD LUCK!
On Tuesday 1st May, Year 3 had their RE day!
We learned lots
about the Bible.
We acted out part
of the story of
Moses and learned
about the Ten
Commandments.
We also acted out some stories from the New
Testament. We learned about William Tynsdale,
a man who worked hard to translate the Bible
into English so that more people could read it for
themselves. We had a go at some code breaking
activities to see just how difficult it would be to
translate unknown text into English! We had an
amazing day of drama, crafts and singing!
Summer Fayre Brochure Competition: Hopefully you will all have received the flyer or read the parent mail regarding our summer fayre brochure competition. We are really looking forward to seeing the children’s entries!! Entries are to be returned to the school office by Friday 11th May and please ensure your child’s name and class are noted on the back. Judging will take place the week after and the winners
will be announced in Worship by the end of May. Children’s School Party: As you are aware from messages from your class reps, we were hoping to host two school parties at the end of June for children in KS1 and KS2. This was following on from the success of our family party. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the support of enough parent helpers for the proposed date so we are looking to organise something in September at the start of the next academic year. We really need and value your support for such events which we are keen to run, to bring the school community together for some fun. Cheam Charter Fayre: The Cheam Charter Fayre will be taking place on Saturday 12th May in Cheam Village. The PTFA will be having a stall at the event and so we look forward to seeing lots of you there. School Uniform Extravaganza: Don’t forget we will be holding a large school uniform sale on Wednesday 9th
May in the school hall from 3.15pm. All items will be 50p each and we are looking forward to clearing lots of the stock. If you have any school uniform you wish to donate then please can you leave it in the school foyer from Monday 7th May.
Year 3 RE Day
On Wednesday 25th April eight Year 6 children took part in the Area Heat of the KS2 Mathematics Quiz
Championship 2017-2018. Our two teams competed against 6 other teams from local schools and impressed everyone with the mathematical understanding and application. Well done to William Le Serve, Diya, Maryam, Samyak, Thaksan, Samuel Nelson, Hattie and William Kirk. We are very proud of your achievements! Well done to St Dunstan’s Team 2 for coming 1st! We await to hear who and where we play next.
On Tuesday 25th April, Year 1
visited Nonsuch Park! We had a
fantastic time
and really enjoyed our walk. We wrote
a accounts of our afternoon;
“On a windy Wednesday, we walked out
of our glorious school onto smoky Ewell
Road.” “Next, we were getting closer
to Nonsuch Park
and we had to write down things we
could touch, smell, hear and see.” Darcey and Elisabeth, Mercury
“After that, Miss Webster read us a
fantastic, wonderful book. It was called ‘Where the Wild
Things Are’. Then we acted out and there were lots of
scary, creepy monsters.” “My favourite part was reading
the book and acting.” Isabella J and Maximilian, Neptune

Attendance
As you may be aware our School Library is
manned by volunteers. We are very grateful to
those parents/carers who give up their time to
help out in our library to ensure that the
children are able to access the valuable
resources we have.
Unfortunately, due to changes in circumstances, some of our
volunteers are having to step down from this role. We are,
therefore, looking for some new volunteers to help out in the library
- particularly on a Monday and Wednesday.
We have a fairly new system in our library which is nice and easy to
use, as well as a lovely, friendly group of parent helpers on hand to
help any newcomers. If you would like to help out in the library to
ensure that the children can all still visit the library on a weekly
basis, please contact the School Office.
Any helpers will need to hold a current DBS check and this can be
arranged by the School. Thank you.
