Fifth Sunday Singing The AWANA workers’ meeting that was
scheduled for tonight, August 30, has been canceled. There will instead be a Fifth-
Sunday Singing scheduled this evening. The singing will start at 7:00pm. If you
would like to sing for the congregation, please see Jay for details.
On September 19 and 20, we will be holding a Global Impact Missions Conference. Keynote speaker will be Samer Mohammad from Brooklyn Tabernacle in New
York City. We will also be welcoming David Parsons, of the North American Mission Board, and Scott and Erin Littleton, of the Mighty River Project, as speakers. The
itinerary for the weekend will be as follows: Saturday, September 19:

7/24 Karen Isgett has returned home from rehabilitation after a stroke. Pray for complete healing.
7/26 Bonita Patton (a co-worker of Elaine Ratliff) is waiting for a liver transplant.
7/31 Cindy Pool and h er daug hters (submitted by Denice Fortenberry), Cindy and her girls are going through a tough time. She and her husband have separated, and they have no home and will likely soon lose their vehicle.
8/5 Mart in Parker (a friend of Allan Asbell) had a severe stroke and some brain damage. Please pray for recovery.
8/14 Ph il l ip Swaim has lung cancer with lymph node involvement. He has started treatment. Pray for God’s will and work in his body as he goes through this time.
8/19 Fran k Hu ndley has been readmitted to the hospital after spending some time at home. Please pray for healing.
8/19 Sam Hall (Sherry Broadstreet’s father) has overall health issues and declining health.
8/19 Sharon McG in nis (submitted by Paul Raker) was just diagnosed with lung cancer. Please pray for God’s healing and grace for Sharon during this upcoming battle.
9/2 Joe Wynns (father of Luanne Lentz) has a large tumor in his right eye. It has been found benign, but please pray for complete healing.
9/2 Ashleigh Essic (Wilma King’s niece) has had a recurrence of liver cancer. She is 31 years old with a small child, and undergoing chemo. Please pray for strength to continue in her treatments so they may be effectual.
9/9 Tom and Dale Gal limore (Jim and Joanne Rhoney’s neighbors) are dealing with tremendous health issues.
9/9 Chery l S tory is having issues with her back, and will have an injection in her back on.
9/9 Joe A sbell (Allan Asbell’s brother) has returned to rehab, and is expected to be there for several weeks.
September Clubhouse Schedule
There will be no children’s Clubhouse during our service on Sunday morning, September 20. On this Sunday, please
bring your clubhouse kids with you to enjoy our regular service in the sanctuary.
Mission Trip to Armenia Jennifer West will be going to Armenia from September 3-14. The trip will be
funded completely through donations and fundraisers. The total cost of the trip will be
around $2100.00. If you are interested in supporting her, donations can be made
with the Sunday morning offering, or in the office. Checks should be made out to
Oaklawn Baptist Church, with “Jennifer West: Armenia” in the memo line.
Deacon Nominations Deacon nomination forms are now
available at the welcome center. This process is used to select new deacons as others rotate off. We will continue taking
nominations through November, so please be considering candidates.
Hall Woodward Supply Drive We are now collecting school supplies for
those in need at Hall Woodward Elementary School. The following list is what is needed:

Men’s Work and Worship Weekend The men of Oaklawn will be participating in a Work and Worship Weekend at the Shelby
Missions Camp on October 9 and 10. If you are interested, check out http://baptistsonmission.org and see Bill Greenwood for more information.
Griefshare The new season of Griefshare is now in
session. Griefshare features biblical concepts for healing from your grief.
Whether you’ve lost someone recently, or it’s been a while, you will find a warm,
caring environment in which to begin the healing process. Classes are held on
Monday evenings from 6:00pm-8:15pm in the Education Building, room 106. Signup fee is $20.00, which covers 2 workbooks.
Nursery Help Needed Some nursery workers have recently become unable to help on Sunday
mornings, so we are in need of volunteers. The more people taking a turn, the lighter the load is on everybody. Please consider
taking a turn and helping our children’s ministry. This service is one of the most
important we offer here at Oaklawn.
Homecoming Homecoming is fast approaching! This
year, it will be on Sunday, October 4. We will be welcoming special guest musicians Three Bridges to bless us with a gospel concert before the morning service, and a dinner on the grounds afterwards. Invite people to join us for this very special day!
State Missions Offering During the month of September, we are
joining in the North Carolina Missions Offering. With this support, a new church opens every four days, and the NC Baptist
Men are supported in 17 ministries that reach out into our communities. Please
look for the special offering envelope at the Welcome Center.
Food Pantry Drive During the month of September, we are asking for donations of canned meat to
stock our food pantry. We are looking for items such as chicken, tuna, and beef. Please make sure all donations to the
pantry are not out of date.
Oaklawn Golf Tournament We will be holding a golf tournament on
Saturday, October 3, at 1:00pm. It will be at Pine Knolls Golf Course in Kernersville, and
the cost is $24.00 per player. The format will be 4 player teams, Captain’s Choice. Men, women, and youth are invited, and
you don’t have to be a member of Oaklawn.
