2012-13 Roster
Devin Taylor took over as head coach of the Owens Community College baseball program last year and led the Express to three straight wins to open the postseason.
After a slow start, the Express slowly improved as the season went along. They entered the Sub-Region XII tournament as underdogs, but they defeated Vincennes University 4-0 and Cuyahoga Community College 13-7 to advance to the program’s first Region XII tournament since the 2009-10 season.
In their Region XII opener against Jackson College, sophomore right hander Dane Davis twirled a master-piece for eight innings, helping the Express take a 4-1 lead into the ninth inning.
The Jets, however, rallied for three runs in the ninth to force extras. That’s when sophomore shortstop Nate Manis delivered a two-run sin-gle with the bases load to give the Ex-press a 6-4 lead.
Freshman Sam Hackney, who fin-

ished the ninth inning in relief, pitched a 1-2-3 10th inning to pick up the victory.
The next day, however, the Express offense couldn’t get rolling as they dropped two games, 3-0 to Delta Col-lege and 9-1 to Muskegon Community College to end their season at 15-29.Davis was the ace on the mound for the Express all year.
Despite finishing just 2-4, he had a 3.78 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 66.2 innings pitched. Following the sea-son, Davis signed with NCAA Divi-sion I IPFW.
Two other sophomores, Manis and Logan Shullick, were each named All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) after the sea-son.
Shullick, who led the team in batting average, went on to sign with Tiffin University, while Manis, who led the team in steals, signed at Wayne State University.
In addition to those three, sopho-mores Sean Koerber (Lourdes Uni-versity), Justin Elder (Union Col-lege), Ryan Horvath (Union College) and Nick Collins (Purdue University North Central) all signed with four-year schools.
Academically, the Express had a solid season as seven players were named to the Academic All-OCCAC team - led by a 3.78 GPA from Davis, who also earned National Junior College
Athletic Association (NJCAA) Aca-demic All-American honors.
In addition to Davis, the other six were freshman catcher Benjamin Breymier (3.61 GPA), sophomore pitcher Michael Fry (3.40 GPA), freshman pitcher Dru Sebastian (3.41 GPA), freshman pitcher Nick Street (3.77 ERA), freshman in-fielder Alex Samson (3.61 GPA) and redshirt freshman pitcher Matthew Zitny (3.55 GPA).
To achieve Academic All-OCCAC honors, a student-athlete has to achieve at least a 3.30 GPA and com-plete 24 credit hours or more.

Head Coach - 2nd SeasonDEVIN TAYLOR
Devin Taylor, who was named the sixth head baseball coach at Owens Community College in September 2012, is entering his second year with the Express.
In 2013, Taylor guided the Express to their first NJCAA Region XII tourna-ment appearance since 2009-10. The team captured the NJCAA Sub-Re-gion XII championship with wins over Vincennes University and Cuyahoga Community College.
Taylor’s first Region XII tournament game resulted in a 6-4 win in 10 in-nings over Jackson Community Col-lege
Following the season, six of Taylor’s players signed with four-year schools, including Dane Davis, who signed at NCAA D-I IPFW. Academically, seven players earned All-OCCAC Aca-demic honors in 2013, while Dane Davis earned national academic hon-ors.
Prior to Owens, Taylor spent the pre-vious three seasons as an assistant coach at Lincoln Trail College in Rob-inson, IL. While there, he served as the team’s catching, hitting and pitch-ing coach.
In those three years, Lincoln Trail catchers threw out an impressive 49 percent of would be base stealers, the team batting average was above .300 and the team ERA was below 3.40.
Additional duties for Taylor at Lin-coln Trail included recruiting and serving as third base coach.
As a player, Taylor split his time between Lincoln Trail and IPFW. As a two-year starter at Lincoln Trail, he was a two-time conference and region champion. Following that, he was a two-year starter at IPFW.
In 2008, he was the only NCAA D-I catcher to start and catch every regular season game. He currently holds the record for most baserunners thrown out in a sin-gle season and career.
Following his collegiate baseball ca-reer, Taylor spent two seasons in the Canadian leagues. He holds an associ-ate degree from Lincoln Trail College and a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University.
Taylor was born and raised in the small, southeastern Kentucky town
of Brodhead. He is the son of Coy and Linda Taylor, and he has five older brothers - Shannon, Keyvin, Shawn, Brandon and Shea.

Assistant Coach - 3rd SeasonJOHN PARISHO
John Parisho is entering his third season as assistant coach with the Express baseball program.
Last season, Parisho served as the team’s hitting coach after working with the team’s outfield during his first year.
Parisho, who recently coached the 18-U USSA National Team in Flori-da, was part of the Eastern Michigan baseball program prior to Owens. He worked under the direction of the hitting and pitching coaches. Parisho also helped with the scouting of op-ponents and made scouting reports for the outfielders.
Parisho has spent time at Dundee High School as a varsity assistant
coach where he was able to learn under the experience and knowledge of Dan O’Brien, a former major league baseball pitcher and former Big 10 coach. While at Dundee, Parisho helped the program get back to playing fundamental baseball and respectability after a few years of below average play.
Parisho has also done numerous lessons with players that have gone on to play collegiate level baseball as recently as 2011 to Xavier University.
Parisho was recruited by numerous college and universities but injuries cut his playing career short. He posted an 8-1 record as a pitcher and hit .389 as a senior at Dundee, while leading the LCAA in home runs.
Parisho was named all-league and all-region as a pitcher and outfielder.
He was a three sport athlete and earned postseason honors in all three his senior year.
Parisho is originally from Dundee, Mich. and now resides in Perrysburg with his wife Angela.
Parisho is currently working towards a bachelors in business administration from Eastern Michi-gan University.

Baseball Returns To Owens In 1993-94In the mid 1960s, Owens Community
College, then known as Penta Technical College, fielded a baseball team for one
season under the direction of Joe Westenkirchner.
Aside from that information, not much is really known about that team. To the
right, a student-athlete sports the old “PC” baseball uniform worn by that mid 1960s team during an early 1990s cer-
emony to announce the return of baseball to Owens.
Also pictured in the photos to the right are then college president Dan Brown, who is pictured holding up the No. 94 jersey, throwing out a ceremonial first
pitch and speaking to the crowd.
Head coach Dave Wagner, who led the team from 1993-97, as well as the club season of 1992-93, is pictured with the
red Owens baseball hat on.
Since the 1993-94 season, the Express has won over 500 games and made the
national tournament twice.
