2011-‐2012: Season Overview (20-‐7) Game 1: SoCo 44-‐-‐-‐Danville 66 The Tigers, fresh off a football state title run just a week prior, didn’t have their basketball legs yet & the eventual AAA District Champion Ironmen led by star PG Andrew Andreychik took advantage of it. Eight of the twelve players that saw action for SCA were football players. Game 2: SoCo 45-‐-‐-‐Lourdes 37 Southern placed three starters in double figures (Keith Day, Kristian Klebon, & Brad Fegley) as they pulled out a victory in the K of C Tournament with Austin Zelinski adding a dozen boards to help the cause. Game 3: SoCo 47-‐-‐-‐Shamokin 50 The Indians hit a buzzer-‐beater to beat the Tigers in the K of C Championship contest. Shamokin Coach Joe Klebon got to face off against his two sons, Kristian & Mike. The Tigers’ Brad Fegley & Kristian Klebon both were named to the All-‐Tournament Team. Game 4: SoCo 67-‐-‐-‐Warrior Run 50 The Tigers won their home-‐opener against their first PHAC opponent Warrior Run. This was the first time that the “Catawissa Crazies” had a chance to give the team home-‐court advantage for the season. Game 5: SoCo 57-‐-‐-‐Loyalsock 55 A PHAC Division II showdown between the top two dogs ended up being a great game as the Tigers erased an early 4th quarter deficit to pull out a two point victory @ Sock. Game 6: SoCo 60-‐-‐-‐Hughesville 34 Southern came into this game with a purpose right from the get-‐go and outplayed the defending-‐District IV Champions in all phases of the game to win their 2nd home game of the season. Game 7: SoCo 63-‐-‐-‐Lewisburg 61 It took more than four quarters to decide this contest as Casey Savitski hit a big shot in overtime that put the Tigers ahead and a Green Dragon shot missed at the end of the OT period to give SCA a road win. Game 8: SoCo 52-‐-‐-‐Mount Carmel 33 Southern got revenge on the Tornadoes after losing to them on the gridiron. The trio of Brad Fegley, Kristian Klebon, & Matt Klock each scored 11 points to lead the Tigers. Game 9: SoCo 37-‐-‐-‐Central 35 Another one of those dog-‐fights between these two rivals that was decided by two points. Brad Fegley (16 points & 9 steals) & Casey Savitski (10 points) made sure that the home Tigers got the “W”. Game 10: SoCo 56-‐-‐-‐Montoursville 49 An unusual game, that was played after the JV contest was delayed for over a half hour due to an opposing player leg injury, was not a very exciting game for a Friday night. However, the Tigers did enough to pull away from their PHAC opponent.
Game 11: SoCo 61-‐-‐-‐Shikellamy 38 This was a game that opened everyone’s eyes letting people know that this Tiger team was a legitimate contender for a league and district crown. SoCo’s stingy defense left Shik with a season-‐low point total and eventual 1,000 point scorer Tyler Pratt finished with only eight points. It also left Braves Head Coach Tim Foor speechless after the game. Game 12: SoCo 46-‐-‐-‐Lewisburg 59 It looked from the opening tip that the Tigers had a victory hangover from two days before as LBG jumped out to a twelve point lead after one period & maintained that lead throughout the course of the game. Game 13: SoCo 59-‐-‐-‐Millville 30 This game proved to be plain and simple; the Tigers were clearly a better team than the Quakers in every aspect. This allowed the SCA starters to take a break & give the subs some extended minutes. Game 14: SoCo 70-‐-‐-‐Warrior Run 45 People will remember this game simply because it was the game that consisted of “The Dunk” by Austin Zelinski. Zelinski, Brad Fegley, Casey Savitski, Keith Day, & Matt Klock all scored in double-‐figures. Game 15: SCA 48-‐-‐-‐Loyalsock 52 A PHAC-‐showcase, that was televised live on WNEP2 to promote the upcoming football “Dream Team” show that honored players around the state including the Tigers very own Brad Fegley & Keith Day, ended with a Sock victory due in large part to their seven three pointers compared to SCA’s zero throughout the course of the game. Fegley & Day did however each have a double-‐double with double-‐digit points & rebounds. Game 16: SoCo 62-‐-‐-‐Hughesville 48 The Hughesville curse was finally over…the Tigers won a game on the Spartans home-‐court for the 1st time in nearly a decade. The Tigers were led by Brad Fegley who had the hot-‐hand from beyond the arc and scored 18 points on the night. Game 17: SoCo 53-‐-‐-‐Selinsgrove 54 It’s typical for the losing team to say that the refs were bad in the game. Unfortunately, on the Tigers’ senior night, everyone in the gym could not only say that the refs were bad, they could say they were awful! Game 18: SoCo 52-‐-‐-‐Mount Carmel 34 Brad Fegley wanted to make sure that even after the first win against the Big Red earlier in the season that the black and gold still didn’t forget about the football season as Fegley netted 16 points in the victory. This would also be a historic night for Southern fans as it would be the last game that the Tigers would ever play in this gym because a new one will be finished and ready to play in next year.
Game 19: SoCo 66-‐-‐-‐Central 37 The Tigers went on the road to Central on their senior night in their gymnasium known as the “Bird Cage”. Sadly for the Blue Jays, Casey Savitski and Brad Fegley ruined their night and “caged” them as the duo combined to score 51 points (Savitski had 27 & Fegley 24) as they could have beaten Central by themselves because the two Tigers outscored the entire Blue Jay team by fourteen points. Game 20: SoCo 79-‐-‐-‐Line Mountain 40 The Tigers placed eleven of their twelve players in the scoring column as they nearly doubled their opponents scoring total in a non-‐league road victory. Game 21: SoCo 59-‐-‐-‐Montoursville 49 The Tigers beat the Warriors to win their first ever PHAC Championship! SoCo was led in the scoring column by a trio of seniors in Brad Fegley, Kristian Klebon, & Casey Savitski as they scored 15, 14, & 12 respectively. Game 22: SoCo 46-‐-‐-‐Bloomsburg 37 Brad Fegley & Mike Klebon both scored in double-‐figures as the Tigers faced off against their cross-‐town rivals and earned a win to end the regular season. Fegley also added 11 rebounds earning him a double-‐double. Game 23: SoCo 50-‐-‐-‐Central 47 Thankfully on a night that the Tigers didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, they had freshman Mike Klebon net 12 points for the team as they won a very competitive first-‐round playoff game. Game 24: SoCo 65-‐-‐-‐East Juniata 46 Casey Savitski carried the Tigers in the scoring column with 24 & Brad Fegley chipped in with 11 as the Tigers won their quarter-‐final matchup against EJ. Game 25: SoCo 44-‐-‐-‐Athens 42 Casey Savitski hit a 3-‐pointer at the buzzer to send the Tigers to their first District Title game since 2007! Up to that point, it was Brad Fegley carrying the load as he hit four 3-‐pointers on his way to a 19 point and 8 steal night against a very tall Athens squad. Game 26: SoCo 49-‐-‐-‐Loyalsock 67 Sometimes it’s just not meant to be, and that was the case for the Tigers in the District Championship as they fell to the Lancers. Tiger captains Brad Fegley & Kristian Klebon both scored in double-‐figures for the Tigers as they earned the silver medal in District IV AA. Game 27: SoCo 47-‐-‐-‐Holy Cross 62 The Tigers fell to a Holy Cross team led by Division-‐1 bound Josh Kosin at Marywood University in the State Playoffs. This game brought the end to the careers of Tiger seniors Brad Fegley, Kristian Klebon, Casey Savitski, Keith Day, Austin Zelinski, Dylan Stimer, & Tyrell Thomas as they leave very tough shoes to fill for next year’s squad.
