Fees Schedule Academic Year 2016-17
Fees Schedule | Academic Year | 2016-17 Dublin City University 1
DCU is a young, dynamic and ambitious university, with a distinctive mission to transform lives and societies through education, research and innovation. Since admitting our first students in 1980, DCU has continued to grow year on year: almost 50,000 students have now graduated from DCU and are playing key roles in many sectors across the world.
From September 2016, The Incorporation Programme will be fully integrated St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra (SPD), Mater Dei Institute of Education (MDI) and Church of Ireland College of Education (CICE) with DCU. An important step in this process occurred in September 2015, when all first year undergraduate and postgraduate research students in SPD and MDI registered as DCU students. In September 2016 all students, including continuing SPD and MDI registered students, will register with DCU.
As well as an expanded Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, Incorporation has also led to the establishment of the DCU Institute of Education, DCU’s fifth Faculty. This herald’s a new era for education in Ireland, creating the largest critical mass of expertise in education on this island across the full education continuum from early childhood through Primary and Secondary and on to third and fourth level.
Incorporation will bring an enhanced learning experience for all DCU students.
Incoming Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Research Students
In 2016-17, first year undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research students including those who previously would have registered with SPD or MDI or CICE should consult this Fee Booklet and the DCU website for information on Student Fees and Charges and related processes.
Students who previously registered at SPD or MDI or CICE and are to repeat a programme, will register with DCU and should consult this Fee Booklet and the DCU website for information on Student Fees and Charges and related processes.
Continuing Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research Students
In 2016-17 all continuing DCU students and postgraduate taught students who previously would have registered with SPD or MDI, should consult this Fee Booklet and the DCU website for information on Student Fees and Charges and related processes.
It was agreed, in a similar manner to the approach taken for the revised undergraduate and postgraduate research fees in 2015/16, that the continuing postgraduate taught students would not be impacted by increases as a result of Incorporation. As a consequence a student who registered on his/her continuing programme from 2013/14 to 2015/16 will have no change to fees as result of Incorporation for a period of three years after his/her first registration. These fees are included on the relevant Fee pages under the column labelled “Continuing Students”. If a continuing student was paying non-EU Fees please contact the Fees Office.
The agreement for continuing postgraduate research students both full and part-time, who would have previously registered with SPD/MDI was that the existing fee structure would be maintained and remain in place until six years after the student’s first registration. As a consequence the separate fee structure for those students will exist up until the beginning of 2019/20. Thereafter the DCU structure will apply.

The liability for your programme fees rests in full with you as a student of DCU.
Students on Grants

Part time/modular study
Many taught postgraduate programmes in the Faculty of Engineering and Computing permit part-time/modular registration, where module credits (denominated in accordance with the ECTS system) may be accumulated over a variable number of academic years to qualify for a particular award (postgraduate certificate, diploma or degree). The annual fee for each academic year of study is then comprised of a fixed programme registration fee plus a variable modular credit fee (proportional to the total ECTS module credits registered for in that year). The programme registration fee is inclusive of all applicable student levies and capitation charges. Each individual postgraduate taught module typically corresponds to 7.5 ECTS. For guidance, a “full time” year of study is normally considered to equate to 60 ECTS of taught modules, plus, in the case of Master’s programmes (M.Eng. or M.Sc.), a further 30 ECTS corresponding to an individual dissertation project or practicum. Please review the published documentation for each individual programme and/or award to verify whether part-time/modular registration is available. In general, modular registration is available only for students with EU fee status.
