LUNCH RESERVATIONS
Lunch reservations for all members and staff must be given to the front desk by 12:30 the day prior. Once a lunch is ordered you are responsible for its payment. If you need to cancel after lunch has been ordered, call right away. We will then know the meal is available if anyone else wants to purchase it. If the meal is not sold, you will need to pay for it. Unsold meals are billed to the Center at the $4.50 price.
TRIP RESERVATIONS Please sign up and pay for trips/events by the designated deadline. Your bus seat is guaranteed only when the fee is paid.
If the minimum number of participants is not met by the deadline the trip/event will be cancelled and payment will be returned. A late fee will be imposed on those not meeting the deadline date providing the trip/event has a sufficient number registered.
Current WSC members are placed first on the Center’s 16 passenger bus for day trips. Non-members may attend a day trip if there are unpaid seats after the trip’s deadline.
Remember to make suggestions for activities!

OCTOBER BIRTHDAY INVITATION If your birthday is this month, please join us at the monthly birthday celebration on October 29 at 11:15 a.m.-2:00. Lunch is free for members (not for staff-unless a member) who are celebrating their birthdays this month. Please call 651-3400 to make a reservation by Wednesday, October 22 so we’ll have enough meals. You must call because you won’t be automatically included in our lunch count. (City Fare sends Birthday cake only for those who have ordered lunch.)
SUGGESTION BOX
If you have ideas for programs, activities or changes, please write a note and put it in the lobby suggestion box.
MORNING COFFEE
Coffee for members is provided by City Fare and we ask that you limit it to two cups each. Other items such as bread, muffins, coffee cake, butter, jelly, cream cheese, etc. are not provided by either the Center or City Fare. Those items are sometimes available from donations by members. If you enjoy having a morning snack, you might consider bringing an item to share. Please remember that Marsha’s priority each morning is organizing the kitchen for delivery of home-bound meals and the Center’s noon meal; not putting out snack items.
COLLECTING SPECIAL ITEMS Recycled eyeglasses and hearing aids for the Lion’s Club and soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House. Please leave them with Gretchen. Thank you for your continued support.
MEMORIAL DONATIONS
We have received memorial donations recently in honor of some very special people.
Gloria Albright passed away on June 9, 2014 and her family suggested donations be made to Wilmington Senior Center. Gloria taught water color painting here at the Center for 25 years and was also on our Board of Directors. She is missed by all of us. Martha Ficke passed away August 28, 2014 and her family also suggested donations be made to Wilmington Senior Center. Martha helped found the Center many years ago and spent much of her volunteer time in creating this organization. She, too, will be missed.

Winter weather is coming and this year is going to be a cold one! A few programs are available to help you manage winter heating expenses.
For Help with Your Bills – Low Income Home Energy Assistance Programs (LIHEAP) This program makes a payment toward heating bills for income eligible households, see chart below for income guidelines. All forms of heating are eligible, including electricity, natural gas, kerosene, propane, coal, or wood. Both homeowners and renters are eligible for this program. For Weatherization – Weatherization Assistance Program This program helps make changes around the home to make things more energy efficient to help lower energy costs. After the changes are made, your utility bill should go down. This program is available to both homeowners and renters who meet income requirements, please see requirements below.

CAREGIVER’S CORNER
Practical Ways to Offer Support to Caregivers
If you are providing in-home care to a loved one, it’s important to have a supportive network of friends. Make a list of the errands, services, and projects that need to be done. Then when people ask if they can do something, offer the list and let them choose what they would be willing to do. The list could include items such as:
Pick up a prescription Shop for groceries Mow the lawn Deliver a meal Stay with your care receiver so you can run errands, take
a walk, or do something else for yourself Drive your care receiver to a doctor appointment Contribute financially to help pay for a housekeeper, adult
day care, respite care, or other expenses Suggest the following websites as sources of support:
CaregiverHelp.com: a video-based website (annual subscription costs $58)
Caregiver Help Word of the Day on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CaregiverHelp?ref=tn_tnmn)
Caregiver Support Forum, (http://www.agingcare.com/Caregiver-Forum): a daily question and answer forum moderated by Carol Bradley Bursack, who is an author, speaker and elder care expert
If you are a friend or a relative of a caregiver, review the list above, and perhaps instead of asking generically if there is something you can do, ask if you can offer help in any of these specific areas.
Social Security Services
You may set up a “My Social Security” account on-line to access your information via www.socialsecurity.gov.
Flu & You
The best way to protect yourself from the flu is to get
a flu shot every year!
washing hands, staying away from those who are sick and covering coughs are good
preventive measures, but flu shots are best.
Get vaccinated at your doctor’s office or pharmacy.
Support for Caregivers...
is available from our Caregiver Resource Center,
call 651-3420 for more information.
Caregiver Support Group meets the second Thursday of the month at 1:30-3:00.
Grandparent Support
Group meets Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Funding for the Caregiver
Resource Center comes from the Division of
Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities
as a result of the National Family Caregiver Support Program, Title III-E of the
Older Americans Act.
