New  Cancer  Center  Vision  2012  “Where  Hope  Lives,  Excellence  Thrives”

Taking  a  Closer  Look  at  Human-‐Centered  Care    In  our  last  issue,  we  touched  on  the  human-‐centered  model  of  care  that  will  be  integral  to  our  new  Dale  and  Frances  Hughes  Cancer  Center.    This  model,  which  focuses  on  healing  the  “entire”  patient—mind,  body,  and  spirit—was  also  central  to  selecting  the  new  facility’s  interior  and  exterior  design.      “As  we  designed  the  new  Center,  the  team  walked  through  every  step  of  the  cancer  care  process  from  the  patient’s  perspective,”  says  Keith  Snidtker,  Director  of  Facilities  and  Construction  Management  at  PMC.    By  mapping  out  each  and  every  stage  of  the  cancer  care  experience,  Snidker,  along  with  his  colleagues  and  architects  Ewing  Cole,  were  able  to  create  a  vision  of  seamless,  human-‐centered  care.        The  Center  will  incorporate  carefully  selected  design  elements,  which  have  been  proven  in  clinical  studies  to  be  therapeutic  and  welcoming  for  patients  and  their  loved  ones.    These  include:

• Access  to  nature  • Abundant  sunlight  • Sensory  stimulation  • Outdoor  views  • Healing  garden  surrounded  by  beautiful,  meticulous

landscaping  • Clear  travel  paths  for  efficient  patient  and  staff  flow  • Enclosed  vehicular  drop-‐off  spots  with  gentle  slopes,  and  more

“We  reviewed  several  exterior  and  interior  design  concepts  for  the  new  Center,”  says  Stacy  Goetz,  Executive  Director  of  Oncology  Services  at  PMC.    “We  are  confident  that  our  chosen  design  will  provide  a  warm,  healing  environment  and  will  reflect  our  reputation  as  the  leading  regional  cancer  care  provider.”        Next  issue:  Learn  more  about  the  technologies  behind  the  human-‐centered  design  of  our  new  Center!

All-‐Star  Game    Raises  $5,000    The  2011  Perryman-‐Keglovits  Foundation's  All-‐Star  Basketball  Game  raised  $5,000  for  the  Pocono  Health  Foundation,  which  will  be  directed  to  the  new  Hughes  Cancer  Center.    Each  year,  the  all-‐star  game  brings  together  local  basketball  players  to  celebrate  the  lives  of  local  basketball  stars  Arthur  Perryman  and  Al  Keglovits  and  to  raise  money  for  those  affected  by  cancer.
