Background lighting: provide separation between the subject and the background; placed directly behind the subject and pointed at the background.

Cameo lighting: a spotlight that accentuates a single person in a scene.

Key light: highlights the form and dimension of the subject

Back light: highlights to form and dimension of the subject from a back angle

Fill light: Illuminates shadowed areas for a more 3-dimensional look

Soft light: tends to "wrap" around objects, casting shadows with soft edges

Hard light: Wraps around subject but creates harder edges

Low key light: accentuates the contours of an object by throwing areas into shade while a fill light or reflector may illuminate the shadow areas to control contrast

High-key lighting: free from dark shadows; creates an upbeat mood
