You had me at Poster...
I have undertaken a fair amount of pro bono poster work over the past few years. “Pro bono?”, you may be asking right now. Or at least that’s what my wife is now beginning to ask after thirty or more that I’ve done in recent years.
Like many designers, I leap at the chance to create a poster. I have loved designing and in most cases illustrating posters for my entire career. The reasons are many; making a contribution to a worthy cause or organization, revelling in the appreciation of the community directly effected by the work, for the pure enjoyment of commuicating a message visually and even to simply practice my craft with the hopes of improving.
However, I’d have to say the biggest reason I love the medium is the size. The bigger the better. The opportunity to craft an image that is both clever and asethetic, and captures the essence of the message at a size that makes a real impact is just too tempting to pass up, no matter how busy I am.
On the following pages you will find a small selection of posters that I have created for various organizations in and around Summit, New Jersey, the town where I live. It’s always hard for me to say no to the neighbors and friends, but it’s nearly impossible for me to say no when they start out by saying...“I need a poster.”
