New next generation bus was coming on-line and Daimler was unhappy with current supplier. Needed to develop and prototype transit bus dash area to meet production start-up cost efficiently.
PROBLEM:
ISSUES: Materials: Required specialty Low Smoke, Low Flame material in custom color and texture.
Design: Parts were being developed and required prototypes to prove part interactions. Several parts required assemblies.
Time: The bus was scheduled to start production while seven different parts needed to be finalized.
Quality: Prototype parts required production materials and quality for final sign-off. Then production molds needed to be built.SAY PLASTICS, INC.

SOLUTION: SAY Plastics designed and developed cost efficient prototype tooling, developed relationship with sheet extruder, and introduced alternative production tooling to quickly get into production.
VALUE: SAY Plastics utilized internal tool building capabilities to quickly and efficiently create molds and get production started on-time.

CONCLUSION:Daimler Bus started production with zero issues on thermoformed plastic components, rewarding SAY Plastics with a multi year supplier contract. SAY Plastics currently manufactures all thermoformed parts that go into the interior of this bus and is converting steel and FRP components to plastic.
