This book showcases the new wave of cool crafting – quirky, cutting-edge, craft-based artwork, often called Indie Craft or D.I.Y. craft. Using traditional methods such as embroi-dery, crochet, knitting, cross stitch, tapestry, needle felt and plush toy making, the Indie Crafters create work that is contemporary, controversial, kitsch, ironic, humorous and blurs the lines between art and craft.
• First global, visual showcase of Indie Craft
• Looks at a range of crafts, from cross stitch to tapestry
• Fun and funky designs to inspire today’s urban hipster
• Foreword by Faythe Levine, director of Handmade Nation
Jo Waterhouse is an avid Indie Crafter working in knitting, crochet and embroidery. She is the author of Concrete to Canvas: Skateboarders’ Art, Concrete 2 Canvas: More Skateboarders’ Art, and Art by Tattooists: Beyond Flash.

The four hundred marks reproduced within these pages represent the diverse array of identity work produced by Pentagram’s partners, past and present, since our founding in 1972. Over the past four decades, we have designed marks for large corporations and small businesses, government agencies and not-for-prot institutions, clubs and societies, and even individuals, all of whom were seeking a representative symbol to appear on letterheads and books, buildings and websites, and everywhere else imaginable.
