Social media can help build your personal brand and it can hurt it. You want clients, co-workers, and potential clients to find you fast and know what you stand for. Social media helps

you appear on Google without having a website.http://brandyourself.com

IT ALL STARTS WITH SEARCH

Make sure your social accounts are secure and private. Check everything that appears in a search.

Tip: In Google, go through not just search but images, videos, YouTube, news, etc. If you don’t like what you see, get it removed by contacting the websites owner or representative. If it’s a social media account, login and change it.

ACCOUNT SETTINGS

Review this every 3 months.Linkedin settings change.

Thursday, September 19, 13

LOCATION AND INDUSTRYIt all goes back to search. How do you want people to find you?

Where do I work, where are my clients and what industries are my clients in.

Thursday, September 19, 13

CURRENT POSITION AND HEADLINEYour headline needs to define who you are and what you do.

This needs to be accurate with your current job title.

Must include industry and your specialty in the description.

Even a Sears portrait would work.

Thursday, September 19, 13

YOUR SUMMARY IS NOT A JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Tell me a story. Tell me your mission.

2. Stay away from buzz words.

3. Keep it simple.

4. Sum it up with a list of specialties.

5. Include a call to action. Send me an email at kevin@philtercommunications.com

PROJECTS SHOW THAT YOU ARE PROUDList projects associated with each job, new clients work, and new internal work.

You have a great opportunity to share the projects that you are part of.

Include team members: The project will appear on their profile too. A great chance to invite clients.

Organize someone at your office to list projects when there finished.

Thursday, September 19, 13

SKILLS & EXPERTISE GO A LONG WAY IN DEFINING WHO YOU AREThey are the first thing seen by the user who is already connected to you.

If you don’t define your skills LinkedIn will do it for you!

You want to take control.

Thursday, September 19, 13

EDUCATION

Including accurate dates in the Education section of your profile will make it easy for the LinkedIn

database elves to match you up with classmates who may be on LinkedIn now, waiting for you to

reach out and refresh the connection.

Thursday, September 19, 13

CURRENT AND PAST EXPERIENCEAttach projects to each.

Your experience needs to back up your summary.

“I am amazing at these things, here is the proof.”

Thursday, September 19, 13

ONCE YOU ARE COMPLETE, KEEP GOING

LinkedIn always suggests ideas on how to improve your profile. Take advantage of these tips.

Thursday, September 19, 13

SOME OTHER TIPSPublic or Private, what do I do?

It’s ok if people use you to find other connections.

It’s not ok if you think they are trying to steal business. Pay attention to the people who have viewed your profile.

Tip: If you are in sales and you have a limited amount of connections that are mostly your leads and prospects, you may want to protect them from the competitors. Keep in mind that this will hinder your experience as you won’t be able to see who views your profile.
