Most important, leaders can conceive and articulate goals that lift people out of their petty preoccupations and unite them in pursuit of objectives worthy of their best efforts.John Gardner

Leadership Definition

• Leadership has been described as the “process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task.

• Alan Keith of Genentech said "Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen.”

• A simple definition of leadership is that leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.

Leadership can be thought of as a capacity to define oneself to others in a way that clarifies

and expands a vision of the future.

Edwin Friedman

Humans are ambitious and rational and proud. And we don't fall in line with people who don't respect us and who we don't believe have our best interests at heart. We are willing to follow leaders, but only to the extent that we believe they call on our best, not our worst.Rachel Maddow

Leadership

It is a terrible thing as a leader to look over your shoulder and no one is following

Leadership can be thought of as a capacity to define oneself to

others in a way that clarifies and expands a vision of the future.• Sarah is currently Acting Principal at Red Beach School

after returning from Abu Dhabi in a role where she worked with teachers to implement change. Over the last 10 years she has experienced the ‘meat in the sandwich’ roles of Senior Teacher and Deputy Principal. She will share how change can be influenced by creating a collective vision, establishing the necessary organisational culture and developing an environment of risk taking.

• Practical tools will be shared that help to give clarity to leadership strengths and shortfalls.

Leadership - No recipe

• So what gets up your nose about leaders you have been led by?

• Under what circumstances would you behave like this?

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.John Quincy Adams
