Decide to listen

You have to follow directions and give the speaker time to talk before you question or comment. Try to refrain from asking questions before the person is finished speaking.

Create the proper atmosphere

It is really important to focus on the speaker, give him or her your undivided attention and eye to eye contact avoid thinking about how you’ll respond and just listen to what the speaker is saying because they might make an important point and if you don’t hear it, you wont know what to do.

Focus on speaker

Show the speaker that you’re paying attention use appropriate nonverbal signals to show like you’re paying attention such as nods , and smiles. If you don’t understand something ask the speaker to reapeat the statement.

The goal is to Determine the speaker’s meaning. Determining the speaker’s meaning is to decide whether the speaker is making a casual conversation or why they chose to make that point at that specific time.

Speaker2: you find that this school is overly strict? Why you say that?

Learn what the speaker expects

Think whether your schedules or plans match the speaker’s request. Keep in mind your time, and energy level .

Consider your own time and energy

Think about the speaker’s tone or mood and their body language pay attention to what they say and do not say. Ask for further directions when needed.

Gather more information

This is all about separating the facts and opinions the key is to judge the message ,and not the messenger .

Determine whether the information is genuine

Think about which information you agree or disagree with. Make your own opinion based on the information.

Evaluating the information

Support your words using body language if you agree with what the speaker is saying, you might look interested .

Think whether its possible to get the job done.

Try to get additional information on puzzling statements.
