11. What will I do as an intern? Hear from the Experts
Craig Sells Former intern in Marketing Analytics Support
My project was to design a methodology and tool to measure the
effectiveness of ads within the Sunday insert. I worked with cross
functional teams to understand which metrics and data were most
important. After understanding key deliverables, I prioritized
which were the highest priority and which were feasible. Based on
this analysis, I set out to find a way to accurately deliver
information, such as incremental lift and other metricspresented in
various ways (i.e., by district, category, etc.). Ultimately I
worked with RASC to design and promote a tool known as QlikView.
This tool was eventually implemented with the help of other
Marketing Analytics analysts.
Joel Zehr Former intern in Corporate Development
One of my core projects involved supporting the CFO of Magnolia
Audio Video in evaluating the profitability of each location within
the stand-alone chain. I built a comprehensive model which outlined
each stores FCF & EVA contribution, as well as, IRR. Extensive
analysis and access to cross-functional expertise was essential to
fleshing out valid assumptions for the model. My analysis was
influential in driving the final recommendation that was taken to
Best Buy Co.s CFO.
