Safety Instructions

Obtain permission from your teacher before using the Band Saw

During open lab you may use any machine that you have passed the safety test on and been through the demonstration.

Plan sawing procedures so there will be a maximum number of forward cuts and a minimum of backing out cuts.

Cut only Stock with a flat surface

Make sure the proper width saw blade is on the machine for your particular job.

The Instructor will have the proper width saw blade installed on the band saw for your particular projects.

Check to see all guards are in place.

Make adjustments to the band saw only when the machine is at a dead stop.

Set upper saw guide ¼ inch or less above the stock to be cut.

Have The Teacher approve all special Setups

Make sure that no one but you is inside the operators zone

BAND SAW

Hold material FLAT on the table at all times

Keep fingers a safe distance from the saw blade

Keep saw blade from TWISTING and BINDING when cutting curves

Allow machine to come to a dead stop before backing out of long cuts.

Keep waste from accumulating on the saw table

Step away immediately if the saw blade breaks or comes off.

Shut off power if possible without endangering yourself.

Notify your teacher

Turn off power after using the band saw and stand by it until the machine has stopped

Clear away scraps of material on the table only after the saw stops running and is at a dead stop.
