My Photography Evaluation.
I decided on my topic of Abstract and the using the sub-genre of
horror because I personally love abstract images and I believe that
you can create very unique images throughout using that genre and
you don’t have to stick to certain angles and/or ‘rules’ as such. I got
inspiration from non-specific photographers by looking at images on
Google under the word abstract horror and abstract images, I also
got told by a friend to attempt the horror sub-genre as I already have
an interest in the surreal things you can find in horror. I used a Canon
1100D camera to take all of my images apart from the half skull and
half human face; I used the camera (which I also believe is a Canon to
take that image in the photography studio). I edited all of my photos
in Photoshop, some have a lot more editing than others, some I just
tinted the colours or made the background contrast more, but on
others I have totally changed the image to make it better! During
editing I have learnt how to change the colour contrasts of images
and how to ‘tidy things up’ with the image and create a slightly
creepy and vintage look to some- shown here.
I believe that there are many strengths and weaknesses to all my
pictures, for example, some of my pictures are edited more
creatively, such as the image above of the half face half skull, that is
edited a lot to create cracks in the skull face and a generally darker
image, whereas the piano is only slightly edited with the colour
slightly tinted to give it a more creepy vintage look to it. The images
of the plant (shown below) also has very little editing as well, I only
slightly adjusted the colour contrast to emphasise the raindrops on
the leaf but the skull and crossbones necklace resting on the wrist
has a modification on the background contrast as well as the general
colour tinting to create a more chrome style image.
I am very pleased with how my final images have turned out, and I
believe I have drastically improved as a photographer, because I now
know how to use editing software effectively and know how to use
the different settings on a camera.
If I did this project again I would make sure that I came prepared
with all the right props and equipment on the right days as
sometimes I was slightly unorganised, therefore I had to improvise
on some of my images and change my plans at the last minute but
other than that I am happy with how smoothly the project went and
I am proud of the work I have produced!
