RULE OF THIRDS

•  What  makes  this  image  so  powerful?  

The  rule  of  thirds  is  a  “RULE  OF  THUMB”  or  guideline  which  applies  to  the  process  of  composing  visual  images,  designs,  films,  paintings  and  photographs  

NINE  equal  parts  by  two  equally-­‐spaced  horizontal  lines  

Two  equally-­‐spaced  vertical  lines.  

•  Examples  using  the  Rule  of  Thirds.  Notice  how  the  focal  point  travels  along  and  overlaps  a  tension  point  or  points.      

•  Take  10-­‐15  photographs,  focusing  on  the  rule  of  thirds.    

•  Subject  of  your  images  is  free  choice-­‐MUST  be  taken  outside.
