Toilet Issues: Common Flushing Problems
Over the years, your toilet can run into many different issues that will leave you
frustrated and feeling helpless. One of the most common issues is a toilet that
will not properly flush. Don't worry, most toilet issues don't require replacing
the toilet, but you may need a little help from your local plumbing experts to get
your toilet back to normal working condition. Below are some common
flushing issues you may experience during the life of your commode.
Your toilet doesn't flush at all. There are a couple of things that could be
causing this problem; one being that there is no water in the tank. If there is no water, there may be an issue with the water line that supplies water to the tank.
Another issue may be that the chain connected to the flapper is broken. This is a quick fix for any experienced plumber.
Your toilet is constantly running. If you notice that your toilet runs for a long
time after you flush it, there may be a leak somewhere. When the tank begins to
fill with water after you flush the toilet, the flapper needs to be positioned properly over the drain. If not, it allows water to leak into the bowl causing the
toilet to run excessively. You may simply need to have a new flapper installed.
Your toilet flushes, but it is weak. Often times, this is caused by dirt and other deposits blocking the flow of water underneath the rim of the toilet bowl. This is
usually easily fixed by scrubbing the rim with a wire brush and a good toilet cleaner. If you do this and still experience issues, you may need to contact your
local plumber for further help.
You hear gurgling sounds in the tubs and sinks when you flush the toilet. This usually means that the vent pipe has a clog. Another problem may be that it
is time to have your septic tank pumped.

It is important to remember that there are many things that should never be
flushed down a toilet such as baby wipes, paper towels, feminine products or grease...yes, there have been issues where grease has been flushed and this is a
big no-no! If you experience any of these flushing issues, contact an experienced plumber as some issues that may seem small can turn into more serious
problems if left alone.
