1. Purpose .. I

As the final step of the assembly and erection, flushing of lubricating oil system should be done for taking out . I·

small dirt that would have b~en introduced there: during the setting of equipmeilts. Oil flushing consists two.

stages, first is the flushing of the pipe line with low viscosity oil, for example, flushing oil or system oil heated I

up. and second is the flushing of bearing parts wtth system oiL About the flushing oil, you should consult all

makers and choose the good quality of flushin~ oil that does not cause bad influence on the system oil;

otherwise the system oil will be spoiled. i 2. Clean the crankcase with oil free sponge and kerosene or turpentine oil for taking out sand, metallic particles)

3. Preparation of oil flushing

1) Interconnecting LO piping between crank case and LO console shall be chemical cleaned at site by

purchas.er after. fabrication. I.. . . 2) After dismantlmg the covers on the crankcase and the SIde cover on the crosshead guIde, Wlpe out the

sand) metallic particle and foreign material inl the crankcase and in the crosshead guide.

3) Put the coyer plates on the inlet and outlet orrhe oil cooler. .

4) Remove the elements iri the oil filter. .

5) Refer to attached drawing t'Temporary piping.for oil flt~ingtl. _

LO pipe ofA and B shall be connected ak shown in drawing.

After removed LO pipe ofA and B) fit the blind flange to the crankcase side flange. I

Temporary flexible tube shall be prepare by pUrchaser, and connect as shown in drawing.

6) Loose the connection at the Supply Liue lnd fit the inspection mesh (120 mesh ) into the loosing

connections. The inspection mesh is not touched to the crankshaft while turning the crankshaft.

The piping connection with plastic tube of c~oss guide are fitted the cover plate to .isolate.

7) Remove the drain or vent plug (3/4 inch) on; the drain or vent piping line and the plastic tube (3/4 inch)

• into the drain plug connection so that the plas;tlc tube are used for jet cleaning.

8) Close all the valves in the lube oil piping for ~he pressure instruments.

9) While the flushing in the oil system, heat up the lube oil temperature as much as possible by heater.I

10) Fill the crankcase with the recommended lube oil.

11) Fit the side covers and cover the upper crankbase with plastic sheet to prevent entering the water and dirt

into crankcase.

4. Oil jet cleaning

1) Heat the lube oil to 40 t by the crankcase lleater or the portable heater.

2) RUll the auxiliary oil pump and examine the inspection mesh for oil feed and dirt.

3) The jet cleaning with plastic tube is done eiery 4 hours at the first 2 days oil flushing. While turning the

crankshaft by the turning bar, the jet cleaning is done to wash out the wall and corners in the crankcase i

and in the crosshead guide with the lube oil from plastic tube.

4) Dnring the :flushing operation, he weldinJ position and the elbow in the oil piping are hammered

approximately 20 times every 2 hours so that the welding particle is removed into the oil. After that,

check the inspection mesh for dirt with attacJed "judgment standard" in page 36.

5. After the flushing

I) Reassemble the removed piping, temporary cover plates, temporary inspection mesh, temporary plastic

tube valve and plug.

2) Fit the oil filter elements for actual use.

3) Run the auxiliary oil pump and tum the crankshaft using turning driver. Check the flow if it shows I •

continuously oil flow from the side gap at earh roain bearing, the upper gap at each crosshead, andtlle oil

flow from nozzle for crankshaft driven gear. Ifyou cannot get good oil flow, you should look for the

cause of trouble as shown below.

CD Val ve is closed

® Cover plate is forgotten to remove I 1

4) Under this condition, the oil pump is operated for 2 tb 3 hours.

5) Drain out the flushing oil completely and clean the interior carefully with plastic sponge.

6) Fill the lube oil in the crankcase. I . .

6. Maintenance during storage period I

Once every 3 or 4 days prime the lubricating oil pump and turn the crankshaft 5 or 6 revolutions (and set the

crankshaft 90 degree in more advance position than the previous position.) .

7. Every 10 to 15 days, open the access hole, and chJck the inside of the crankcase whether there is any rusty part . ! .

or not. Do not open then access hole at the time when the temperature suddenly changes or it is in highly

humid condition. Otherwise, water vapor goes in ard some part will quickly become rusty.

9. Judgment standard for oil system flushing I

1) Judgment of the flushing is made under the condition described in the para. 3. 1) - 3) after one hour

circulation of lube oil. During the flushing period, hammering to made once.

2) After one hour nmning of the lube oil pump, if quantity of dust fOWld in the filter, fitted temporarily, is

less than the amount denoted in the table below, it isjudged acceptable.

Remarks: The judgment is made as based on Ithe condition that no dust above 0.25 mm exists.

3) If there founds a hard dust such as iron, aside from the table below, further care must be paid.
