Microsoft Corporation* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * INSTALLATION PREREQUISITESOPERATING SYSTEMSIt is possible to install MSM 6.5 on Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 4 recommended) or Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2 recommended). Installation on Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 is still possible, but no longer supported.DATABASEMSM automatically installs and uses the database Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2.0). Before MSDE 2.0 is installed the following must be fulfilled:1. Internet Explorer 5.00.2314 or later is installed on the target computer.2. If the target computer has SQL Server 7.0, SQL Server 2000 or MSDE 1.0 installed, they must be uninstalled.* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * UPGRADESThis version of MSM support upgrades from MSM 6.3 or later. An upgrade will save and reuse the previous MSM configuration. If the installed version is older than 6.3, it must be uninstalled before this version is installed. This will result in an MSM configuration with default values.* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * NEW FEATURES IN MSM 6.5 COMPARED TO PREVIOUS VERSION MSM 6.4 1. Support for the MINI-LINK TN modem MMU2 B Radio links with a MMU2 B-based terminal on one side and a MINI-LINK E terminal on the other can now be handled from the MINI-LINK E side.2. Support for MINI-LINK TN modem MMU2 C and later Radio terminals based on MMU2 C and later are identified as "MMU2 B+". These terminals are supported in the same way as terminals based on MMU2 B.3. Support for ATU C MSM 6.5 provides support for terminals based on ATU C. These terminals are identified as "ATU_C".4. New inventory names The names of some inventory parameters are changed to align with the names used by MINI-LINK Manager. The following names are changed: - Unit Type is changed to Product Name - HW Release is changed to HW Version - SW Release is changed to SW Version5. Improved identification of MINI-LINK TN terminals The IP address and slot position of a terminal based on MMU2 or MMU2 B (or later) is shown in the Terminal Window when MSM is launched from the TN-EEM. For protected terminals, the slot position refers to the SMU (for terminals based on MMU2) or the MMU in the lowest position (for terminals based on MMU2 B or later).* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * CORRECTIONS IN MSM 6.5 COMPARED TO PREVIOUS VERSION 6.41. The AM Setup was not always saved correctly when the traffic rate of a terminal was changed. - The Expanded NCC number was not always set to the value that was selected in the AM Setup dialog. - If the Expanded NCC Number was changed to "Inactive", the identity of the terminal was reset to "TRMA". Note: This correction is also included in Service Pack 1 for MSM 6.4.2. The AM Setup could fail when changing back to the original traffic rate on an MMU 2x2 - 34+2.3. MSM could crash at startup if running on Windows XP as a normal user (a user which is not Administrator).4. MSM could crash if an alarm notification with unrealistic data was received from an SAU.5. Installation program: If the path to the selected destination folder contained spaces, the resulting installation path sometimes became faulty.6. Installation program: In the "Enter database SA password" dialog box, it was possible to click "Next" without typing a password or selecting the "Blank SA password" check box. 7. Minor corrections in Help texts* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *KNOWN BUGS AND LIMITATIONS1. Installation aborts without an error message. SYMPTOMS: The installation program for MSM aborts, during upgrade of an already existing MSDE database, without an error message. This situation will never occur if the previous version of MSM and this version were installed from original Ericsson CDs. CAUSE: The MSDE installation program (by Microsoft) assumes that the upgrade files are located in the same directory as when installing the original MSDE. If originally installing from :\MSDE, the upgrading must also be done from :\MSDE. is the current directory and doesn't have to be the same for the original installation and upgrade, but the path from there to the upgrade file must be the same. SOLUTION: Make sure that the upgrade is done from an MSDE directory that is located in the same directory structure, under the root of the disk, as the original MSDE installation was done.2. AM Setup failure SYMPTOMS: When an AM Setup is performed that changes the traffic rate of an rate agile MMU (valid for MMU 2x2-34+2, MMU 4-16xDS1, MMU 8-16xDS1, MMU2 4-34, MMU2 4-8 and MMU2 4-16xDS1) the error message "AM setup failed" is sometimes shown. CAUSE: The MINI-LINK terminal response time is outside the specified response time-out in MSM (specified in the Configure Communication dialog box) SOLUTION: Make sure that MSM is connected to one of the MMUs on which the traffic rate is changed. If this does not help, the response time-out in MSM can be increased.3. Graphical problem. SYMPTOMS: The graphical layout in some MSM dialog boxes seems to be incorrect. In, for example, the Traffic Setup dialog box, buttons and text boxes overlap each other. CAUSE: Your Windows installation is probably using large fonts while MSM is optimized for small fonts. SOLUTION: Modify the Font Size in the Control Panel->Display->Settings tab.4. Launch of MSM from Traffic Node LCT fails. SYMPTOMS: When MSM is launched from the LCT and the following (or a similar) error message is given; Error opening file C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ADMINISTRATOR\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES\CONTENT.IE5\O5QNCPYN\TEST[1].mxm. CAUSE: The folder ..\TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES\ is full and the *.mxm file that is used to launch MSM cannot be created. SOLUTION: Go to the Control Panel -> Internet Options -> General -> Temporary Internet files. Press the button "Delete files".* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TECHNICAL SUPPORTIf you have a technical question or have encountered a problem with this software, please contact your local Ericsson representative.
