Spring Break Travel Budget

Plan the Trip• The vacation would be for a family of four (two adults and two children) to

go on a seven day trip to Cancun, Mexico. • Using redtag.ca I was able to find a flight and hotel package for four to

Bellevue Beach Paradise in Cancun. An all-inclusive hotel on the beach, it seems like a great week at spring break. It is also very close to the town of Cancun, and the bus ride from the hotel to town would be equal to less than one Canadian dollar per person. Flight and hotel together would equal $1732 including tax, and if we add bus and spending money, we can give a budget to spend between $1900-$2000.

Save for the Trip• For the purpose of this project, we are going to say that I have a part-time

job working the cash register at McDonald’s, making minimum wage ($10.25 an hour), for four hours a day, three days a week. This would mean I was making $123 a week.

• If I wanted to save equal amounts of money each week, I would have to save $71.43 each week, beginning the first week of September 2014, if I wanted the trip to happen in March of 2015. To do this, however, I would need to be able to work every week until that point, including Christmas. Instead, I have removed two weeks at Christmas and two other weeks, just incase, from the work weeks. If these weeks are removed from the plan, then I would have to save $83.33 a week. I don’t think this would be extremely difficult, as I, being a busy and active 15 year old, do not have a lot of time for where I would be spending a lot of money, other than the occasional purchase of clothing or food.
