Today, the London Eye has become, quite

literally, the way the world sees London. It is one of the most spectacular and popular attractions in the world, drawing visitors from far and wide. Its success is unquestionable, as is its popularity with tourists and Londoners alike. Yet it was conceived, designed and built against considerable odds. Of all the remarkable facts about the London Eye, perhaps the most astonishing is that it was ever built at all. It is one of London's few attractions that enjoys a significant portion of repeat business, say no more.

Porters English Restaurant, less than 10 minutes walk from the London Eye in the heart of Covent Garden's theatreland is famous for serving excellent homemade real English food. This year is their 25th Anniversary so we think that they must be doing something right! Porters best sellers include Steak, Guinness and Mushroom Pie, Pork, Leek and Sage Sausages, Salmon and Prawn Fish Cakes, not to mention wonderfully calorific puddings like Steamed Syrup Sponge and Spotted Dick. A choice of either starter and maincourse or maincourse and pudding from Porters table d'hote menu is included along with bottomless coffee or tea.

Porters is open everyday from 12noon until 11.30pm (10.30pm on Sundays) Your reservation can be made at any time.

Covent Garden Grill (as the name suggests) is in London's Covent Garden and less than 10 minutes stroll from the London Eye. Intimate yet bright, the grill is popular with both locals and tourists without ever becoming oppressively packed. The ground floor is divided up into sumptuous leather upholstered booths, whilst downstairs the ambience is slightly calmer with plenty of room and a feeling of exclusivity. Apart from the extremely tempting menu choices there is an excellent wine list (sensibly priced) obviously selected by someone with knowledge. The list of beers and lagers is equally interesting, there are about two dozen to choose from.

A tour of Westminster Abbey lasts about 90 minutes, and when you come out there is just enough time for the short drive to watch the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace. [Note. This can be cancelled due to bad weather] We have an excellent viewing place at the Palace and the Guards and Band march within a few feet of where you will be standing. Our clients have some excellent photographs to prove it.

There will be a chance to see Shakespeare's Globe Theatre- maybe a tour for another day? We will also pass The Monument where the Great Fire of London started in 1666, and finally arrive at the Tower of London. The Tower is steeped in history and many of the places you can visit inside the grounds are over 700 years old. The tour of the Tower of London last between 90 minutes and two hours, and when you have finished there is still plenty more of London to see.

Within walking distance of the Tower there is Tower Bridge and also nearby is part of the Roman Wall, which surrounded London 1800 years ago.

Now it is back on the road again, passing Lloyds of London, the London Stock Exchange, and the Bank of England and St Paul's Cathedral.

Continuing with the tour we will drive around Trafalgar Square and see Nelson's Column, drive down The Mall and visit St James's Palace and then Kensington Palace, the Royal Albert Hall and Albert Memorial.

The tour should finish at 5.00 pm at your Hotel, but if all that history has made you hungry why not let us drop you off at Porters English Restaurant in Covent Garden for a traditional English Meal.

Located in the middle of the barren expanse of Salisbury Plain, with its horizontal lintel, it is unique among stone circles. The ancient Britons quarried, carved and lifted these massive stones, how it was constructed still defies belief. The first stone was placed here 5000 years ago and the monument was finally completed 1400 years later.

We head on towards Bath, the countryside changing from the bleak and barren Salisbury Plain to the fertile and beautiful landscape of Wiltshire and Somerset. In Regency Bath which is a world heritage site, we find elegant stone buildings with their terraces, crescents and graceful squares spread before us. We visit the original Roman Baths and the Georgian Pump Room where the natural mineral water attracted all fashionable society from far and wide. There is time to explore the Pulteney Bridge standing astride the River Avon, topped by shops and buildings or see Bath Abbey.

Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066 and enlarged and modified by successive sovereigns, today the Tower of London is one of the world's most famous and spectacular fortresses. The Tower of London has been an integral part of British royal history for nearly 1,000 years. Only at the Tower can you marvel at the breathtaking Crown Jewels, stand on the execution site of three English queens and hear the myths and legends that make a visit to the Tower a day out to die for!Although the Tower of London is today seen as a visitor attraction, it is also a thriving community; about 150 people still live within its walls, mainly the Yeoman Warders (or 'Beefeaters') and their families.

Admittedly Porters hasn’t been around quite as long as the Tower, a mere 25 years, which by London restaurant standards is actually quite an achievement. Owned by The 7th Earl of Bradford; Porters serves traditional English food, their policy of keeping standards high and prices low is definitely a recipe for success.‘One is tempted to say that before dining at Porters one should check with Mother and double check with Nanny that it is alright to have such an unashamed indulgence. Prepare to return to the good old days and the reassurance that wholesome English food is what made the Empire great and can still delight and embolden the visitor to Covent Garden.’ Covent Garden Life - 2004A two-course meal from Porters excellent table d’hote menu is included along with the fast-track ticket for the Tower of London.
