HISTORY The Russian Ethnographic Museum

Was founded in 1901 as a branch of

the Russian Museum. The right wing of the

Mikhailovsky Palace was rebuilt in 1900-1911 by

architect V. Svinyin in neoclassicism style for the

collections of the Ethnographic Department.

It was founded by the last Russian Emperor

Nicolas II and nowadays it possesses a rich

collection of cultural items of 157 European and

Asian nations. The Museum's building was

erected between 1902 and 1913 by architect

Svinjin.

INTERIOR The Russian Ethnographic Museum is

one of the largest European ethnographic

museums.

The 615 square meters large Marble Hall is the

memorial to Emperor Alexander III and it is recognized

to be one of the most beautiful halls of St. Petersburg.

The entry room is suitable for a cocktail.

On both sides in two floors the museum

exhibition is located. The Marble Hall was

designed to show the grandeur of the

Russian Empire and its supreme authority

over all the ethnic groups of the country, hall built

in pink marble with a glass arched ceiling.

The lower walls show engraver of people from all

over the Soviet Union and around the

room there are balconies.

COCKTAIL LOCATION A cocktail can be served either in the entry room / hall

separately or as a cocktail around Soviet Union.

In each hall, there will be a station with dance, music and

tasting of the specialties from each republic (bread & salt

with vodka in Russia, pepper vodka – in Ukraine, Green

tea & sweets in Azerbaijan, dry wine – in Moldavia etc. )

providing a classical

evening / seating or

folkloristic themes and

table settings with

Russian Samovars

and Russian Scarf's

instead of table cloth.

• 19:00 – 19:30 - Welcome Cocktail in the lobby

• 19:30 - 23:00 Dinner at Marble room (recommended

entertainment: Babki from Karelia (authentic countryside

folklore), Balalaika Trio, Russian Folklore singing group)

• 22:00 – 22:30 - Cossack Dance Show on the stage

after Dessert served

• 23:00 - Departure from the Ethnographic Museum

SCENARIO: ETHNOGRAPHIC COCKTAIL IN SOVIET UNION

• 19:00 - Arrival to the Ethnographic Museum

• 19:00 – 20:00 - Tour & Welcome Cocktail

The group will be divided into smaller groups visiting the halls

dedicated to the culture of the former Soviet republics. In each

hall, there will be a station with dance, music and tasting of

the specialties from each republic. Like, bread and salt with

Russian vodka – in the department of Russians, pepper

vodka – in Ukraine department, Green tea with sweets in

Azerbaijan department, dry wine – in the Moldavian

department, etc. Georgia.

• 20:00 - 23:00 Dinner at Marble room (recommended

entertainment: Babki from Karelia (authentic countryside

folklore), Balalaika Trio, Russian Folklore singing group)

• 22:00 – 22:30 - Cossack Dance Show on the stage after

Dessert served

• 23:00 - Departure from the Ethnographic Museum
