Tuvalu (tuvaluisch Fakavae Aliki-Malo i Tuvalu zu deutsch Konstitutionelle Monarchie Tuvalu) ist ein Inselstaat im Pazifischen Ozean Er ist als parlamentarische Monarchie organisiert und Mitglied des Commonwealth of Nations Hauptstadt ist das Atoll Funafuti und Regierungssitz das auf diesem Atoll gelegene Dorf VaiakuBis zur Unabhaumlngigkeit am 1 Oktober 1978 hieszlig das Territorium Ellice Islands Tuvalu ist einer der abgelegensten und kleinsten Staaten der Erde Die einstigen Ellice-Inseln waren bis zwei Jahre vor ihrer Unabhaumlngigkeit 1978 als britische Kolonie mit den Gilbert-Inseln assoziiert Tuvalu ist in 9 Inseln gegliedert (Auf deutsch bedeutet Tuvalu Acht Inseln)Da die Inseln nur 4 Meter uumlber dem Meeresspiegel liegen ist damit zu rechnen dass sie aufgrund der globalen Erwaumlrmung uumlberschwemmt werden Die Regierung versuchte bereits vorsorglich fuumlr ihre Bevoumllkerung in Neuseeland und Australien Asyl zu beantragen was fuumlr alle Einwohner Tuvalus von beiden Staaten abgelehnt wurde Neuseeland hat sich allerdings bereit erklaumlrt jaumlhrlich 75 tuvaluische Emigranten aufzunehmen Auch durch Erosion der Straumlnde versinken die insgesamt 9 Inseln Tuvalus nach und nach im Meer Schon jetzt hatten die Menschen dort immer haumlufiger mit Uumlberschwemmungen zu kaumlmpfen Zusaumltzlich wurde die Gewinnung von Trinkwasser und die Produktion von Lebensmitteln durch die Versalzung aufgrund des Meerwassers immer schwieriger

Tuvalu formerly known as the Ellice Islands is a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean midway between Hawaii and Australia It comprises three reef islands and six true atolls spread out between the latitude of 5deg to 10deg south and longitude of 176degto 180deg west of the International Date Line Its nearest neighbours are Kiribati Nauru Samoa and Fiji Tuvalu has a population of 10837 (2012 census) The total land area of the islands of Tuvalu is 26 square kilometres (10 sq mi) Capital is the Atoll Vaiaku Since the islands only 4 meters above sea level it can be expected that they will be flooded due to global warming The government tried taking the precaution to apply for their populations in New Zealand and Australia for asylum which was rejected for all the inhabitants of Tuvalu by both states New Zealand has however agreed to take a year 75 Tuvaluan emigrants
