Blönduskóli

In Blönduskoli there are about 118 pupils in ten grades. Each grade has from 8 to 18 pupils in it. There are 17 teachers in Blönduskóli. Usually in Iceland each year is taught in a special grade. Recently we have been putting the grades together when it fits. In art and crafts 2nd, 3rd, 4th grades are together and 5th, 6th, 7th grades in smaller groups. 8th, 9th, 10th are together in Icelandic and English.

What is special about us?

• We are near the nature; glacierriver, sea, shore, mountains, countryside, farming.

• Workplaces in walking distance.

• Connections to workplaces, everyone knows someone everywhere.

• All kinds of field trips are an everyday event. Visits to the slaugterhouse, powerplant, hospital, policestation, farms. Walkingtours to the shore, river, garden opposite the school.

• Methods used for evaluations have been revised and changed the last few years.

• Grades 8th, 9th, 10th have optional subjects.

• Co-operation with homes is considered as very important.

My teaching highlights

• 8th, 9th, 10th grades divided in 2 groups. A lot of opportunities in a small school

• Do not use the usual text / gapfilling books. • Use media a lot, if something happens in the

world..... • Project work, pupils have a lot to say about what

to do, read, work with. • Computers, internet • Options when reading, which levels, what

about...

Events in Blönduskóli

• Sportsday: Then everyone takes part in various sport events, even the teachers.

• Annual festival: Its the teenagers festival. A play is shown, a songcontest, coffie and cakes. At least 250-300 people come to watch.

• First day of sumer: 1-7 grades. Every grade has something to show and everyone appears on stage. About 250-300 people come to watch,parents,grandparents and even a lot of people who have no connection to the school.
