There is a very large glass and wrought-iron dome. It is 41m high. The building was designed by engineer and architect Francis Fowke, a captain in the Royal Engineers. Round the outside, a little lower than the roof, there is a big mosaic frieze with pictures of "The Triumph of Arts and Sciences" and some writing in terracotta letters. It also has some words from the Bible. When Queen Victoria opened the building she was so emotional that she could not speak.

The hall has been used for lots of important events ever since 1871. Many of the seats are still owned by members of a Corporation which was called “the Corporation of the Hall of Arts and Sciences”. This group had been formed in 1866 as a charity to get money to build the hall. Its members still have a right to occupy 1,300 of the 5,200 seats.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were married for 20 happy (by all accounts) years; the marriage produced nine children. Queen Victoria never fully recovered from her grief after the prince died of typhoid fever at age 42 in 1861. Victoria spent the remainder of her long reign in mourning. Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Memorial were built to honor the Prince Consort.

Grifonul este emblema Cetăţii Londrei

The City of London adopted what are usually described as griffins as supporters for its coat of arms, and it marks its boundaries with statues of a single "griffin" carrying the City coat of arms at each road leading into the City of London. However, the City of London griffins are, in fact, heraldic dragons, with scaly bodies and wings, no feathers, and no eagle's beak.
