Botswana Unpacked

Chobe National Park

Maun

Okavango Delta

Moremi Game Reserve

Undoubtedly one of Africa’s most beautiful rivers, the Chobe supports a diversity and concentration of wildlife unparalled anywhere else in the country.

One of the most sought after wildernessdestinations in the world, the OkavangoDelta gives entrance to the spectacle of wild Africa such as dreams are made of – the heart-stopping excitement of big game viewing, the supreme tranquillity and serenity of an untouched delta.

Botswana’s tourism capital lies on the southern fringes of the Okavango Delta. For many tourists, Maun is the point of Entry into the Delta, and often into Botswana, with direct flights from both Johannesburg and Gaborone.

This gem of a National Park has garnered a number of important distinctions. In 2008, it was voted the ‘best game reserve in Africa by the prestigious African Travel and Tourism Association at South Africa’s premier tourism fair, Indaba.

Gemsbok National Park

The Kgalagadi

Linyati

The size of Portugal, largely uninhabited by humans. Its stark, flat, featureless terrain stretches – it would seem – to eternity, meeting with a milky-blue horizon. This is the Makgadikgadi – an area of 12 000 sq kms, part of the Kalahari Basin, & one of the largest salt pans in the world.

Covering a full 84 percent of Botswana’s land area, the semi-arid Kgalagadi terrain dominates most of the country. Refuting the classical perception of desert as a barren, vegetation-less, useless land, the Kgalagadi (Kalahari) is rich in natural resources.

One of the most interesting but lesser known regions of Botswana, the Gemsbok National Park is set in the remote south-western corner of Botswana, where the annual rainfall seldom exceeds 125 millimetres. .

North of Savuti is Linyanti, an almost forgotten corner of the Chobe National park. With its mature woodland and beautiful fiver frontage on the Linyanti Swamp, it is one of the most attractive areas in the park. It boasts a great diversity of game and a restful atmosphere..

Magical Botswana

Tsodilo Hills

Santawani

Boteti River

The area around North Gate is referred to as Khwai, which has earned itself the reputation of being one of the best game areas in Botswana. The Khwai River, which is the easternmost brach of the Okavango Delta, brings water to an otherwise arid area and attracts a spectacular array of animals in winter.

A very game rich area in the south-eastern part of the Moremi , Santawani flanks the cut line of the reserve and the Mongogelo River to the south. There water pools together with a good diversity of habitat allows for close up sightings of many different and interesting species.

Botswana's artistic culture has flourished from time immemorial. The Kalahari is rich in the remains of tools and artefacts made thousands of years ago, as early as the Stone Age. The Tsodilo hills are covered with San paintings.

Water leaving the Okavango flows through Maun and then heads down the Boteti River, before eventually emptying into the southern Ntwetwe Pan. The banks of the Boteti are steep and offer fine views of the river
