Opening hours: Unlike the Rohtang Valley, Solang is open throughout the year. However, you can try the

adventure sports only between 9 A.M and 5 P.M. For skiing, the ideal time is between 10 A.M and 2

P.M.

Old Manali

A quiet settlement 3kms away from the hustle and bustle of the new town, famous among backpackers

and hippies is the village called Old Manali. Separated from New Manali by a bridge on the river

Manalsu, Old Manali has an exotic charm of its own. Old Manali is popular for its quaint café’s and lively

street markets, some of the popular cafes are Riverside café, Sunshine café, German Bakery, Dylan

toasted and roasted and many more, which serve delicious food. Head to Old Manali if you want to

experience a place with a very different vibe and chilled out atmosphere and also if you are looking for a

really cheap guest house.

Hidimba Temple

Built in 1553 A.D by Raja Bahdur Singh, Hidimba Devi Temple also known as Dhoongri Temple is

dedicated to Hidimba, the wife of Bhima, one of the five pandavas from the Indian mythology

Mahabharata. The temple is surrounded by towering deodar trees and is away from the noise of city life.

Best time to visit Hidimba Temple is in the month of May, when a three day festival featuring colourful

folk dances is held.

Opening Hours: 8 A.M – 6 P.M; Throughout the year

Vashist Temple and hot water springs

Named after Rishi Vashist (one of the seven sages of Hindus) this temple is believed to be around 4000

years old. The Vashist temple is embellished with wood carvings and the interior is adorned by

traditional figures and antique paintings. One of the major attractions of this region is the Hot water

Spring, believed to have medicinal properties that help cure skin infections and diseases. There are

separate bath for both men and women.

Opening hours (Hot water springs): 7 A.M– 1 P.M and 2 P.M – 10 P.M; Throughout the year

Naggar Castle

Located in Naggar town (former capital of Kullu) and built in 1460 AD by Raja Sidh Singh, this historic

structure is surrounded by astounding forest hills. The Naggar castle is a splendid fusion of European

and Himalayan architecture. Impressive wood and stone work, fireplaces and an astonishing view add to

the immense beauty of this historic structure. This palace is now a heritage hotel run by Himachal

Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC). Naggar castle has sublime art pieces like Nicholas

Roerich’s (famous Russian painter) paintings on display for the art lovers.

Tibetan Monasteries

Manali is home to many Tibetans and so also has many beautiful Tibetan Monasteries representing the

rich culture and history of the people. There are two main monasteries in Manali that attract large

number of tourists, the Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa and the Himalayan Nyingmapa Gompa. These

monasteries are a must visit for their impressive architecture and the handmade handicrafts produced

by Tibetans who sell them outside these monasteries.

Opening hours: Like any other monastery, the Tibetan Monastery in Manali welcomes the guests at any

hour of the day and on any day of the year. The main entry to the shrine, however, is open only from 7

A.M - 7 P.M.

Club House

Located at a distance of 2kms from Manali, this British styled structure called The Club House is an

amusement zone and is also an attraction for tourists visiting Manali. Maintained by Himachal Pradesh

Tourism Development Corporation, the Club House offers facilities like, Roller Skating Rink, an

auditorium, a library, bar and restaurant and a variety of indoor games.

Opening Hours: 10 A.M – 8 P.M; Throughout the year

Jogini Falls

For the nature lovers who are looking to spend a few hours in the midst of nature in search for peace

and tranquillity, Jogini falls is a must visit. Few kilometeres ahead of Vashisht Hot Springs lie these

breathtakingly beautiful falls which can be reached on foot through a moderate trek. Visit this place to

enjoy the serenity and the astonishing beauty of the falls and to treat yourself to some delicious local

cuisine sold here by the locals.

Manu Temple

Dedicated to sage Manu, who is considered to be the creator of human race according to the Hindu

Mythology, Manu temple is situated approximately 3kms from the Mall Road and is surrounded by lush

green forests. The temple ranks high in terms of historical and religious importance, and its walls and

pillars are full of intricate scriptures. Apart from the spiritual satisfaction, Manu temple also provides

gorgeous views of the valley.
