Filtering what children watch online can be difficult even with

safe search activated and searching for ‘family friendly’.

YouTube is set to launch a child friendly app on February 23rd

to make the service safer for younger users.

What’s this all about?

Will YouTube Kids work differently?

YouTube Kids will have extra parental controls and restrictions

can be set as to who can upload content. Parents will be able

to limit the amount of time children can spend watching videos,

and they can disable the search function so children only

watch what is approved for them.

If a profanity is typed into the search engine, a message will

pop up that says ‘Try something else.’

Will YouTube Kids be popular?

Shimrit Ben-Yair, YouTube Kids product manager, has

commented: ‘Parents were constantly asking us, can you

make YouTube a better place for our kids.’

‘We've seen 50% growth year over year in viewing time on

YouTube, but for our family entertainment channels, it's more

like 200%.’
