Well Come to GHCL Sutrapada

Page 2: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

•What is Virtualization?Virtualization is Nothing But Creating Virtual Version of

Something, in Computer Terms it can be OS, Storage Device, Network Resources.

Virtualization

Page 3: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

Goal Of Virtualization

• Goal of Virtualization is to centralize administrative task while improving scalability and overall Hardware Utilization. Many operating system can be run on single high end server.

• An Enterprise can better manage the updates and rapid changes to OS and applications without disturbing the users.

• Ultimately virtualization dramatically improves the efficiency and Availability of System resources in enterprise.

Page 4: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

Hardware Virtualization

• Hardware Virtualization or Platform Virtualization means creation of virtual machine that act like real computer. For Example Computer Running Microsoft Windows 7 May Host The virtual machine look likes a ubuntu.

-Host Machine-Guest Machine

Page 5: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

Types Of Hardware Virtualization

• Full Virtualization :- Almost complete simulation of the actual hardware to allow software, which typically consists of a guest operating system, to run unmodified

• Partial Virtualization :- Some but not all of the target environment is Simulated. Some guest programs, may need modifications to run in This virtual environment.

• Para Virtualization :- Hardware environment is not simulated; however, The guest programs are executed in their own isolated domains, as if they are Running on a separate system. Guest programs need to be specifically modified To run in this environment.

Page 6: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

Creating Monitoring And Maintenance Of Virtual Machines

• Prepare the requirement of virtual machine Environment like how many user will connect To the VM, How Many Applications will run on The VM. As per requirement decide how much Resources required for VM Like No. of Virtual processor, RAM and NIC etc.

• Now Create the VM in hypervisor and install The OS and All Other Application users want run.• Keep Monitoring The VM And See How Much Load it takes and if needed Change the resources It uses.

Page 7: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

Snapshotting of VM

• Snapshot is a state of virtual machine at an exact time. Snapshots are taken by giving an order to do so at a given time and can revert on demand.

• Snapshot is extremely rapid backup technique.

• Snapshot can be moved to another machine With its own hypervisor

Page 8: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

Teleporation

• When the VM is temporarily stopped, Snapshotted, then it can be moved to other server and resumed on new host, this process is known as Teleportation (or migration).

• If you take snapshot regularly then Teleportation process become very fast And uninterrupted to the users.

Page 9: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

FailOver

• Failover allows VM to continue operations if the host fails, in such failover case failover VM continues its operation from last known coherent state, rather then current state.

Page 10: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

Challenges

• First challenge with virtualization is the complexities of licensing.

• Virtualized desktop is depend on centralized Server, storage and network. Which puts user vulnerable to server and Network outage or capacity limit.

Page 11: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

Desktop Virtualization

• Desktop virtualization is the concept of separating the logical desktop from the physical machine

• Desktop virtualization is more advance state of hardware Virtualization.

• Rather than interacting with host computer directly via Keyboard and mouse and monitor, user uses another Computer or mobile device to interact with the server.

• Thin Clients in desktop virtualization are simple and much Cheaper solution which are designed to connect through The network

Introduction

GHCL Ltd – Sutrapada Facility is having a state of the art Network infrastructure in place. To Support the Business with almost 99.999% uptime. IT Team conducts The audit of the existing set up to study the gap Addressing the below mentioned parameters to the HOD.

• Redundancy • Network Scalability

Page 19: Virtualization & Network Connectivity

GHCL Existing Network Setup

• Existing network is based on the industry standard practice of design i.e. core – distribution & edge / access layer.

• Redundancy has been built at the core layer by deploying the HSRP Configuration on existing layer – 3 switches.

• Redundancy has been built at the link as well as path at almost all the locations.
