Micronics Flow Meters

The demand for Flow Meter technology is growing

This technology has been developed to make sure that it meets the requirements of recent industrial applications

Modern flow meters are easy to install and calibrate, as well as reliably providing accurate information on the flow of liquid, gas and steam

As the restrictions tighten on carbon emissions and water use, Flow Meter technology can play a large role in monitoring flow, making efficiencies and reductions equally important

Micronics Flow Meters

There are a few different Flow Meters currently on the market, each more suitable for specific applications

These include Open Channel, Thermal, Magnetic Differential Pressure, Magnetic, Positive Displacement, Vortex, Turbine and Ultrasonic

Were going to take a look at some of the fundamental differences between the Turbine and Ultrasonic Flow Meter to demonstrate their suitability for different flow measurements

Turbine Flow Meters

Turbine Flow Meters are placed within the flow of liquid. The liquid travels past the turbine blades which sets the rotor into motion. Turbine Flow Meters provide a very accurate record of fluid velocity

The greatest strength of a Turbine Flow Meter is its accuracy in repeatability. This is one of the key indicators of an instrument’s quality

The issue with Turbine Flow Meters is that in real applications, conditions don’t usually remain the same. Changes in temperature can impact on the viscosity and density of the liquid, which can then change the flow rate

Ultrasonic Flow Meters Ultrasonic Flow Meters are installed onto the exterior of the pipework,

making them easy to install and maintain. This also makes them more suitable for applications where hazardous liquids and gases are used

Ultrasonic Flow Meters rely on transit time technology. Ultrasonic waves bounce between a transducer on one side of the pipe and a receiver on the other. The signals travel time is then stored and the difference in transit time provides an accurate measurement of the flow rate within the pipe

Ultrasonic Flow Meters are strongest in reproducibility. This means it provides accurate measurements despite changing conditions. As Ultrasonic Flow Meter technology has developed, the device’s ability to adapt to varying conditions that may occur has drastically increased
