PROBLEMS & ISSUESOpenStreetMap Tunisia :

PROBLEMS : PEOPLE

• 90% of OpenStreetMap data created by 10 contributors

• Today : 3 or 4 active contributors

• Mailing list unused• Tunisians are not

aware of the benefits of OSM project

PROBLEMS : HARDWARE

• GPS tackers & loggers are not available in Tunisia

• Smart Phones are expensive (3 times the minimum wage)

• Only one car navigation system (4 times the minimum wage)

• Tunisians are not familiar with this technology

PROBLEMS : INFRASTRUCTURE

• Street names are not always mentionned / readable

• Sometimes we notice two different names for the same street or two different spellings

MAIN PROBLEM : DICTATORSHIP

• Dictatorship hates :– Freedom– Every project not under control– Alternative solutions– Different minds/thinking– NGOs

• Tunisians were discouraged from joining organisations/having volunteer activity
