In case of photographs no recovery can be made hence it is necessary to ensure to above the below following mistakes:

Use of multi focus points : when one is using multi focus points in the camera most cameras will work to find the nearest center of the frame. Knowing the subject will help you understand which portion you wish to focus in the photograph.

Single Focus mode instead of multifocus allows you to select one single point focus. When you are taking a picture of an owl or hawk and want to focus on the eye then there is need to depress the shutter halfway to lock the focus and the readjust the frame of the composition.

Animals move very quickly if the shutter speed is wrong, then you will end up with a blurred image. Slower shutter speed will give you the best results. But when working in the dark along with shutter speed one needs to increase the ISO values and widen the aperture.

The best way to avoid camera shake is to double your lens length to obtain shutter speed. To avoid motion blur of a fast moving subject its better to double it again.

There is a problem if you are too focused on the subject. Be aware of the background behind the subject. Ensure that the subject and background have a difference and do not overpower each other.

Choose your apertures carefully. When you choose the wrong aperture chances are the background is too focusses and it draws attention away from the subjects. Use a wider as it will blur the background more.

When you switch to a wider aperture there is a far narrower depth of field. When taking pictures of the eye of an owl there is a need to isolate the subject from the surrounding giving the subject a clear landing.
