Google provides a mapping program which offers a number of services to both private users and business. These services include:

Terms Of Service (TOS)

Google Terms of Service covers a number of items which include:

You relationship with Google – Covering your responsibility for the

following terms and conditions:

Accepting terms – Advises of legal rights to use Google Maps

including the responsibility to accept the terms of use.

Privacy policy – Must abide by Google privacy policy and

governing privacy polices in the area of your operation

Other areas of the TOS include: Provision of Service, Google

Accounts, Proprietary Rights and Licensing.

Google Maps – Free Services

Google Maps is free for private use by an individual who accesses Google Maps through the web site address of http://maps.google.com (may vary according to region)

Google maps provides a free service for individual users to access any of

its functionality through the ‘Google Maps’ web site using a standard

browser.

Use of other applications to access Google Maps using programming

interfaces to perform additional operations outside of what a single browser

will allow is not included in its free service.

Google Maps provides an API (Application Program Interface) to facilitate using a website to access Google Maps. his is issued upon application.

Google does not charge when a publicly accessible website

redirects to Google maps or contains Google Maps Images.

Examples of allowable use of Google Maps API include:

Embedded Maps in a web page or in an i-Frame

Links to specified Google Maps

Google does reserve the right to incorporate advertising into

images.

Internal Business Use - Copyright

. Google Maps provides Google API Premier for use within internal business environments. This product has license fees.

Google must authorise use of Google Maps being

consumed inside a business application that is not

accessible to the general public.

Google policy requires API premier to be used on a

license basis either by usage or concurrent user

numbers.

Google Grant Terms

Google provides a waiver of license fees to approved non for profit organisations to use Google API Premier.

Google Maps API Premier for Non-profits can create or

consume existing maps into their own business domain.

Organisations are only eligible if they are listed as a tax

exempt business.

Service Provision terms

Google stipulates a number of conditions and statements in relation to the provision of the Google Maps service.

Google has the right to:

Provide 3rd party information

Limit use of your service

Include advertising

Terminate your service

Google Privacy policy states the following:

Personal information is only shared to trusted sources

with your consent (Suzor, 2008)

Best practice followed for Security & Data Integrity

Provision of access to edit your information

Regular compliance checks and policy changes do not

diminish privacy.
