Resolve crash and stability issues in Office programs

Symptoms

<Application> has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Sometimes, the program exits without warning or error. If the program stops responding, you may have to force the program to exit.

Resolution

To get easy resolution Microsoft introduced an tool named Office Configuration Analyzer tool

Let’s start troubleshooting using OffCAT

•Step 1: •Download and install OffCAT (Office Configuration Analyzer Tool).

•Step 2: •Start OffCAT, and then scan the Office program that's crashing.•Start OffCAT by using the shortcut that was created during the installation process.•Windows 7 and earlier versions

•When OffCAT is starting, it automatically checks for the list of latest known issues.

•Make sure that you let this process finish so that the scan of your Office program uses the latest issues list.

•On the NEW SCAN page, click the Office program that's crashing.

•Then, click Scan.

Note If you cannot start Outlook because it crashes soon after you try to start it, right-click the Outlook tile and then select Offline.

After the scan finishes, exit any Office programs that are running.

Step 3:

Review the known crashing problems that have been identified by OffCAT.

step 4.In the OffCAT scan results, click the Filter icon.

Clear the Select All box, select the Crash symptom in the list, and then click OK.

The first issue with a Crash symptom is displayed and expanded to show you more information about the issue. Click the Click here to see possible solutions to this issue option to open the article that contains information about a resolution.

Follow the resolution steps that are provided in the article.

Repeat steps for all other issues that are listed in the report under the Crash symptom.

Test your Office program to see whether it continues to crash.

If your Office program continues to crash after you follow the steps go to step 4.

Step 4:

Check for Office product updatesIn your OffCAT results, click the Filter control one more time.In the Filter dialog box, clear the check boxes for any selected symptoms, select the Product not updated check box, and then click OK.
