DESCRIPTION

My co-founder Nikka and I come from first generation immigrant families. We were the first in our families to attend a university far away from home. After Berkeley, I moved to Washington DC, Nikka moved to Brazil. Every time we moved, we struggled to find cheap local hotspots or things to do on the weekends. This problem was exacerbated when we moved to Fayetteville, AR and found ourselves without a means of transportation, largely because we assumed Fayetteville had a public transportation system, and didn't find anything on Google to prove the contrary. This constant problem could be avoided if I had friends everywhere I go. But I don’t. And that’s where Sooligan comes in. Sooligan provides local information in real-time by capturing the RAVES or RANTS of locals in every city. Sooligans don’t just tell you the tacos are great at Albertos. We tell you that place is packed right now, and they’ve just run out of your favorite shrimp tacos RIGHT NOW. You no longer need friends or family everywhere you go to receive valuable word-of-mouth recommendations. Sooligan is also a platform for localized Question & Answers so all of your local questions can get answers directly from someone that has an answer: a local. Sooligan is now available for download on iOs!!

Sooligan vs. CompetitorsCompetitor Differences with Sooligan

Yelp Yelp is a passive form of local social search. Not very interactive, contains reviews that are often out-of-date and inaccurate. Yelp also tends to be used for business reviews and recommendations. Sooligan opens up the raves and rants to any topic in that city, not just businesses.

Local Twitter Allows users to see tweets made by locals in their current city, however, they are not structured in any way besides being made locally. Sooligan structures every user posting as a RANT or RAVE, making it easier to find specific sentiments about local businesses, issues, events, and more. Sooligan also provides a direct localized Q&A platform.

Crowdbeacon Requires people to identify themselves as experts, which is constantly changing so not a stable variable. Not very interactive, user has to seek information to receive information.

LocalMind LocalMind is similar to Sooligan’s instant Q&A but it does not have an interactive social experience like the Rants and Raves. Users on LocalMindtend to be continuously asking questions, searching for answers, and looking for reviews, not leaving them.

NextDoor NextDoor’s purpose is similar to Sooligan in that it is a platform for locals to communicate with each other. However, NextDoor is limited in that it is only for neighborhoods, and a user must be a verified resident of a certain neighborhood to participate. It is also only for neighborhood services.

Revenue Model AMoments-based advertisement integrated into user experience as a stream of photos, generated based on keywords. For example, a RAVE about a coffee shop will show an ad for a local coffee shop. A RANT about a certain business may generate an apology from the business.
