B) MASTERY OF KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
The five authentic specimens that I have found contain some errors and one of
them is a free error sentence. First, I will explain about the four specimens that are
containing some errors.
Below is a sentence taken from a blog and the further explanation for the correction that
has been done to it. The focus of the correction is on the verb tense of syntax rules.
Sentence with some errors After that we went to hometown to visited our family.
Correct sentence After that, we went to our hometown to visit our family
Explanation Every verb that is following the ‘to infinitive’ has to be in the
base form. Therefore, the sentence should be ‘to visit’
instead of ‘to visited.

Below is a sentence taken from a sign board and the further explanation for the
correction that has been done to it. The focus of the correction is on the vocabulary
chosen of the syntax rules.
Sentence with some errors If you see something suspect or can be disturbed aviation
safety;
Correct sentence If you see something suspicious or can be disturbing
aviation safety;
Explanation The vocabulary adjective ‘suspicious’ must be used to
describe the characteristic of something that they want to
look for instead of using the noun ‘suspect’.

that has been done to it. The focus of the correction is on the subject verb agreement of
the syntax rules.
Sentence with some errors I needs to do my assignment.
Correct sentence I need to do my assignment.
Explanation ‘I’ is the plural pronoun and the verb that follows it should
be in plural, ‘need’.

Explanation This advertisement violated the syntax in the form of
spelling error. The spelling of ‘Closing’ will never be
‘Closeing’.

The four specimens above are containing errors and violating syntax rules. In this
part, the free error sentence will be shown. The picture below was taken from an
exercise book.
The sentence above is:
You have passed your exam.
It is an error free sentence because the verb tense ‘passed’ is agrees with the auxiliary
‘have’ which means the result of the exam that the person had been seated before was
passed.
