THERE’S SOMEONE YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW

• you need some way of getting in touch with them

• they might be a celebrity or journalist on twitter…

• …a person you met a while ago that you want to meet again

• …or an OLD FRIEND you haven’t seen in a few years in person

• …or someone you meet in person in the present

• this happens spontaneously, without forethought

• you’re INSPIRED to get in touch with them again

• or you want to befriend a person you just met

• we always forget amazing ideas we have

• ideas are valuable and memorable

• send them an IDEA in your OWN VOICE to break the ice.

WHAT IS BREAKING THE ICE?

• Someone is on twitter all the time and you’d like to say something to them but you don’t know them personally

• You think someone could help you, and you’d like to ask

• Opening up the option for a further, deeper bond with someone you meet casually and would like to know better

• Giving both you and the person you’d like to know the option of communicating at a later time (getting the “digits”)

• Sparking a conversation with several followups on twitter

• Posting a “nice meeting you!” voicemail on their Facebook

Get their twitter, email, phone #, or be Facebook friends. Key.

HAVE TINYVOX ON YOUR HOME SCREEN READY TO GO• You can either make a voice message for them…

• …or tape their idea (ask permission first of course!!!)

Page 5: How do i break the ice?

FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU CAN SAY THAT’D INTEREST THEM

• If it’s their idea, of course this doesn’t apply.

• Have something to SAY. Maybe you need their HELP.

• Read their twitter feed and profile and find a topic.

• Did they just write about something? Got a question to ask?

• If you’re with them live, ask them cool questions

• You might meet someone with a cool project – tell them you can help them tell their story and tweet it out for them to RT

• Find a way to THANK them (hat tip to @garyvee)

• If you’re meeting them in person, ask their permission

• Ask them great questions like you’re interviewing them

• If they’ve got a project, they can RT the audio you tweet out (podcasting)

• If you’re tweeting to them, enter their @username in the TAPE LABEL like pictured.

HOW DOES THIS BREAK THE ICE IN A UNIQUE WAY?

• Your voice communicates the real you

• It’s surprising and memorable to hear someone talk to you

• It’s easier than carefully composing an email

• Spoken words say more and can state things uniquely

• They probably will be intrigued and maybe even talk back

• If you get no reply, it’s not like you bothered them that much

• Follow up by friending them on Facebook with their email

• Keep in touch regularly – especially if you “got the digits” ;)
