• They have an average length of 51cm including a 13cm tail, and the weight of about 0.7 to 2 kg, and have a natural lifespan of 7 to 10 years.

• They have brown, black, white, or brown and black fur.

Bison

• Bison have a shaggy, dark brown winter coat, and a lighter weight, lighter brown summer coat.

• Bison can reach up to 6 and 1/2 ft tall and are 3 to 10 ft long and weigh 450 to 900 kilograms.

• Their heads and fore legs are massive, and both genders have short, curved horns, which they use in fighting for status within the herd and for defence.

Interesting Facts

• Grasslands are named the transitional biome. This means that grasslands are usually found between the desert and the forest, but It would become a forest if grasslands had more rain and If it had any less rain, it would be a desert.

• There are 3 types of grasslands. Tall grasslands have very tall grass, up to 5 feet tall, and they get almost 30 inches of rain a year. Mixed grasslands have grasses that grow to 2 to 3 feet tall. This kind of grassland gets about 15 to 25 inches of rain a year. The third kind of grassland is the short grasslands. This type of grassland is almost a desert. It has very short grass and only receives 10 inches of rain each year.

Interesting Facts

• True prairies and grasslands are becoming harder and harder to find. People are capturing the wild lands, and the grasslands are becoming as extinct as the animals that are missing from them today.

• In Africa, national parks are being set up to look after the grasslands. This will help the animals such as lions and elephants to live on for more generations.

• The United States are starting to look after the wild grasslands, too. They have even replanted grass where it has been cleared for farming.
