Getting the most out of ebrary

 

To access ebrary, you will need to be logged onto itslearning.

 

From your courses page select “LRC” in the courses list.

From the LRC homepage, click on the ebrary icon.

If you are searching for a general topic you can type your search criteria into the box and select “Search ebrary.”

If you would like a more focussed search or you are searching for a specific title or author, select “Advanced.”

By clicking on “Advanced” you can search by title, author, publisher or ISBN amongst many others.

Select your preferred option, enter your search criteria and click on “Search ebrary.”

If you prefer to search by key word, you can narrow down your search by selecting the subject tick boxes.

Once you have selected the relevant boxes select “Search ebrary.” More subject topics will appear  - repeat the process as necessary.

The books relevant to your search will be populated in a list (like most search engines). To select a particular book, click on the title or the cover of the book.

You can also navigate through the book by clicking the left and right arrows at the top of the screen.

Alternatively you can type in the page number and press return.

The left side of the screen displays the actual content of the book. The top right side of the screen displays the contents page.

You can skip to any chapter of the book, by selecting the chapter title from the contents page.

The magnifying glass and arrow icon, allows you to search through the document for the next occurrence of your original search term.

In the example opposite the original search term was ‘Freud’ (the word Freud will be highlighted throughout the text). Clicking on the magnifying icon, will take you to the next instance of the word “Freud” in the document.

You can also type in a new keyword, to search the document.

Select the -/+ button to increase or decrease the size of the reading pane.

Selecting the info tools button will give you access to a range of extra functions, which are also accessible by a right mouse click:

Print: you can print the current page, current chapter or a selection of pages, by entering the page numbers. The maximum printing possible is 40 pages.

Copy: select the text you would like to copy and click copy. Paste the text in a Word document as you normally would. Notice there is an additional referencing paragraph which can be used in your bibliography.

Define for a dictionary definition

Explain for an encyclopaedia entry

Locate for a map

Who for a biography
