6. Summary of Experiences

  • I wanted to be a wise healer woman
  • Later, I wanted to bridge the gap between environmental science and policy
  • 1st year was hardest year academically

  • Modify SuccessRedefine Success
  • Went on European Youth For Action bike tour
  • Then went back to Guelph for 2nd year
  • Made a list of 6 summer conclusions;
    • science is subjective & constructed
    • the importance of walking the talk as an activist
    • I can do whatever I want to do as long as I try hard enough

  • + AGSC 250 = Ego Implosion & Adrenal Burnout
  • Couldnt reconcile a career in international climate activism with my responsibilities to family, farm and community.
  • New gang who valued farming.
  • So much flying. Inconsistent with message.

10. Summary of Experiences

  • Transferred to UBC!
  • Redefined success (slowly)
  • Didnt seriously volunteer for anything for an entire year
  • Climate change - nauseous & tried to do a SEEDS project and I couldnt face it.
  • Realized that Im only responsible for me and thats okay. Focus on my self - being sustainable.
  • Realized that I dont have to be perfect to deserve love.

15. Critique of GRS

  • freedom of taking whatever I wanted at UBC.
  • Challenging:
    • background knowledge sometimes
    • Changing study styles and writing styles
  • Overall I was a stronger student (?) broader base of understanding
  • Renaissance woman

  • Scared to graduate in less than a month.
  • Still mind/body dualism - Sacrifice body for mind. Quote.
  • Trying not to compare myself to others
  • Work on throat & sacrum chakra
  • If Im a social construction than is there such thing as authentic desire?

27. Future has in Store

  • Dad retiring in 4 years
  • Farmer, good community member & mom !
  • Sad about midwifery Massage therapy ?
  • Yoga instructors course ! Doula ! Meditation !
  • Want to learn basic Mohawk eventually.

  • Make a healing cooperative on the farm. Employ permaculturists, massage therapists, meditation experts

  • Critical analysis of science as non-universal
  • First Nations Studies, Gender Studies, Sociology & Anthropology
  • Foucault, Semiotics, post-colonial theory, queer theory,
  • Alternatives to industrial capitalism
  • Proportional representation (?)
  • Still happy about learning in academic institutions!

  • Grants for gender related projects/events
  • Space for chilling
  • Workshops/events
  • Hiring for 3 coordinators - 10 hrs/week. $16. Work study position: resource coordinator, events coordinator and organisational coordinator.
