How do you build your cloud roadmap –4 step procedure
• Build POC environments for each critical application and validate functionally
• Perform cost analysis and estimate project duration and resources
• Complete study of IT infrastructure and costs, including recommendations and a detailed plan
• Perform cost analysis and estimate project duration and resources
• Migrate test and dev workloads • Migrate non critical applications like productivity, documentations
• Migrate production systems • Tune-enhance-optimise

Carry out Proof of Concept to be sure of your Cloud roadmap
Learn the strength of cloud
• Build reference architecture• Be aware of the security features• Automate routine work for
operations
Build a prototype/Pilot
• Build support in your organisation• Validate the technology• Test legacy software in the cloud• Perform benchmarks
Your cloud deployments will evolve
Your experience and learning knowledge will evolve too
Pick the right approach – Treat it as a learning experience

The migration approaches to place applications on cloud
• Map on-premises technology services to Cloud services
• May be only option for some apps
• Minor modifications to apps to improve cloud usage
• Provides more benefits with more effort
• Redesign apps with Cloud in mind(high effort)
• Re-architecting and re-developing is justified
• Can provide full benefits but needs the most effort
Migrate without change Migrate with some improvements Migrate by re-architecting

• Basic workload• Current/supported
OS on Cloud• Known/documented
environment• No database• Projected to migrate
with basic tools• Few dependencies• Scheduled outage is
OK
• Basic workload• Partially
documented components
• No database• May require re-
platforming (i.e., OS)• Scheduled outage is
OK
• Contains multiple components
• Additional effort to document components
• No database• May require re-
platforming (i.e., OS change/upgrade)
• Outage with advance planning
• Business impact possible for production servers
• Multiple components including database
• Limited downtime permitted
• Production servers likely to impact business if unavailable for an extended period of time
• Multiple components include database
• Complex system configuration
• Contains several dependencies
• Limited to no acceptable downtime

Case Study: Cloud ramps up customer acquisition
The rapid business growth will exceeded the capacity of its IT infrastructure and expected a 100-fold increase in enterprise data.
Challenge
Provided on-demand compute and storage to host, scale and manage web applications on the internet through Cloud
Solution
Loading time of consumer sites and applications became lower by order of magnitude
Result
• With a network of over 90 offices around the country , the company provides an excellent local media marketplace platform for small and medium businesses and consumers to meet at a common junction. The business doubled every year and planned to grow by 5 times in the next 3 years..
• Access to scalable infra • Pay-by-use utility computing experience
and cost savings• 100% uptime and higher user satisfaction
• Before moving to the Cloud, the company ran around 70 physical on-premise servers across three different data centers (in the course of several acquisitions). There was no redundancy, and, scalability was a huge issue. Sites would go down every few hours, and, if there was a traffic spike, it just could not keep up. From under 200 GB of enterprise data in 2013 it has now grown to 4 TB of total storage. At this growth the capital expenditure on server hardware and the cost of management multiplied with & took them away from the goal of being more business centric

Case Study: Cloud to generate paperless reports
Data collection across departments was a huge task but collating it to generate reports was an equally big challenge
Challenge
Provided a unified cloud platform –including compute, storage to have consolidated infrastructure where the documents would reside
Solution
Transparent Communication Framework and accountability by tracking all communication
Result
• A team of professionals has been serving the e-governance services. There were multiple departments involved to data processing across multiple isolated data centers which meant voluminous data to be processed at high speed
• Faster Report Generation and Decision Making
• Decreased the turn around time to email and print notices to citizens in just a few minutes.
• Efficiency and Innovation
• Data was manually consolidated and therefore prone to manual mistakes. Senior officials had to put in a lot of time to correct data before using it for decision making. As collecting all the data at one place and at the needed time was impossible, it usually delayed critical business decisions.
