Libraries and Linked Data

• Increased flexibility for describing resources

• More reusable links from one record to another

• New options to contextualize external sources

• Ease of integration of catalogues into general purpose Web and social media

• Lightweight model easier to extend for future needs

• Facilitate re-use of data and ability for developers to incorporate into other apps

• Improved positioning of credible records from libraries within Web search engines

Analysis ProcessDeconstruct MARC

• Identify Resources reflected in MARC records

• Core vocabularies associated with these MARC Resources

• Types, People, Places, Organization, Topics, etc.

• Provide the building blocks for communities to connect, re-assemble as needed

Criteria for Success“A Seat at the Table”

• Common ground for accelerating the conversation

• Draft of a code model, serialization, supporting code that provide such a table

• Semantic building blocks that enable communities to connect, re-assemble, and relate to as needed

• Process and procedure for supporting community dialog and evolution
