Children are becoming more connected each day and now their toy boxes will become a smart with talking toys and interactive learning experiences.

Barbie is leading the way in traditional toys having digital makeovers, while a dinosaur connected to intelligent IBM Watson is also hitting the shelves.

HELLO BARBIE

Mattel is partnering with start-up company ToyTalk to develop a new Barbie doll which will have interactive conversations with the children playing with it.

Hello Barbie will use a ToyTalk developed speech-recognition platform. This will enable it to have two-way conversations, play games, and tell stories and even jokes.

In order for Hello Barbie’s full connective features to be available, the doll requires a Wi-Fi connection and can last up to 1 hours’ worth of play when fully charged.

TALKING WITH DINOSAURS

Do you want your child to interact with one of the world’s cleverest machines? Start-up company Elemental Path is developing range of smart toys powered by IBM’s supercomputer, Watson.

Using Kickstarter the CogniToy project has already surpassed its $50,000 target with 26 days still to go.

The 1st CogniToy developed is a green dinosaur with a blue button on its stomach. A child will press the button to ask a question, and the toy then connects to an online database to filter the best age-appropriate answer.
