1 Make it Easy Peasy to Par7cipate
Use mul7ple entry points and ways for your fans to
to the community. contribute
Facebook enables fans to post comments – tag photos ‐ like content ‐ comment others ‐ reply to discussions…
you name it!
Use ac7onable language to turn those lazy observers into
commiKed contributors.
It’s ok to put out a
call for ac7on if you need to. Really!
Use status updates to
ask ques7ons and encourage responses.
DO NOT
deliver press releases!!!!
2 Be an Inspirer
Every community is different and
a manager must adapt accordingly. But first of all:
be a leader!
A great leader will step in and encourage people to interact with each other.
A great leader will start discussions and ask fans to engage.
A great leader will post inspiring content and floss every day… ok, you get the leader‐thing.
3 Interact with The Community
Interac7ng with the
community lets them know that
someone is listening.
Welcome newcomers and encourage them to
in the conversa7ons. join
Talk to commentators, be
colloquial and lay out guidelines for par7cipa7ng.
Pay aKen7on to ac7ve par7cipants in the community – they’re the ones
behind the content and the pillars of your tribe.

Yes, you may delete those
consistent nega7ve comments if
they purposely obstruct the discussion, but…
… always contact the writer one‐on‐one before erasing. That’s common courtesy.
4 Iden7fy and Nurture Power Users
Don’t forget about those
frequent content contributors in your community.
The culture you create with really ac7ve users from day one
will strongly influence your page when it reaches a bigger audience.
Iden7fy, befriend and
the ac7ve and loyal users. nurture
Your super users can offer great insight and feedback. They might even be smarter than the manager. Yep, that’s you!
5 Reward Contributors
Give users good reasons to post comments and interact.
AKen7on is always a good reason.
Always reply to ques7ons and comments on the
wall and in private messages.
Say thank you when users contribute with
relevant content or comments.
