The World of PHYSICS…

*The Steam Engine and the Industrial RevolutionThe development of steam engine

ushered in automation. Although machine before this period helped

man a great deal, you still nee man to work with the machine;

like “you have to pull the pulley, spin the gears, etc.”

The steam engine allowed a person to generate power whenever or whatever is it

needed. Although this existed even during the time of the Greeks, it was only used for

heating and/or pumping water. The machine were still then

inefficient.

The World of PHYSICS…*The Steam Engine and the

Industrial Revolution…James Watt changed that with his development of the modern

steam engine and patented it in 1769.

From Watt’s design, several other steam engines become more

efficient, especially when Arthur Woolf built the first compound

steam engine for industrial uses.

After then, steam engine has the greatest effect in transportation.

High-pressure steam engine developed by British engineer-inventor Richard Trevithick and American inventor Oliver Evans built the first locomotive train.

*The Steam Engine and the Industrial Revolution…From the steam engine, other types of engines

came out. Through it all, there came electricity,

electric motors, factories, and different designs of

automobiles. The Industrial Revolution is at its peak.

The World of PHYSICS…*Computers and the Information

RevolutionMany scientist agree that the invention of computer in 20th

century is the Information Revolution (IR). Although computer

scientists and engineers can be seen at the forefront developing

new computer software and hardware, all those internal components that make up

computers were still developed by physicists.

Information retrieval has become much faster and more convenient

with computer technology.Computers, initially just in research

and military institutions, became generally available because of

transistor.

The World of PHYSICS…*The Discovery of Transistor…

The electronic components during the 1940s were based on vacuum tubes. Because of their

size and large power consumptions, the first

computers were big, bulky and inefficient.

The quest for miniaturization started with the development of

transistors in 1948 at Bell Laboratories by American physicists Walter Houser

Brattain, John Bardeen and William Bradford Shockley

which pioneered research on semiconductors and won 1956

Nobel Prize in the field of physics.

The World of PHYSICS…Due to fast developments and

discoveries, miniaturized radios were developed. This radio was also known as “transistor radio”

which was derived from its component which are transistor

package.

After transistors, more semi-conductors were discovered and

developed. Years later, IC package were invented and studied. This was known as integrated circuits (IC), which later has made a long way to the developments of even smaller packages and lead to the discovery of microchips or silicon

wafer chips. Circuits became unimaginable due to tiny chips composing thousands of circuit

connections.

TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS AND ADVANCEMENTS.Physics as pioneer science has

become the spearhead looking into different possibilities of discovering

and developing new things for human convenience and

consumptions.These researches and discoveries

has lead to several high-technology gadgets and equipments which in the past are just fruits of human

imaginations and dreams.Man has dreamed to fly and the

airplane was discovered; reach the stars and man was able to land on

the moon. There are a lot to mentioned with it comes to

technologies.

AND ADVANCEMENTS.

Laser is a device that produces and amplifies light. The word LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

Laser light is very pure in color, can be extremely intense, and can be

directed with great accuracy. Lasers are used in many modern

technological devices including bar code readers, compact disc (CD)

players, and laser printers.

in eye surgery to correct this woman’s vision problem.

Laser is used also in surgery, wherein an accurate and precise operation is required.

The World of PHYSICS…

A strand of fiber-optic cable reflects the light that passes through it back into the fiber, so light cannot escape the strand. Fiber-optic cables carry

more information, suffer less interference, and require fewer

signal repeaters over long distances than wires. .
