Once Upon A Time…

• In book nine of the Odyssey, the conflict began with, Odysseus and his crew stumbling upon, the land of the Cyclopes.

• While on the island, they venture into a cave, the home of Polyphemus, a cyclopean sheep herder, and son of Poseidon (God of the sea, earthquakes, and horses).

• In Polyphemus’ home, they find cheeses, tools, and sheep; items they believe that they should steal. In an attempt they get captured, and several of the men got devoured.

Odysseus and his men wait for the owner of the cave to come back. When the owner comes back they realize that it is a huge Cyclops. He has the ability of breaking a man in two without breaking a sweat.

When the Cyclops came back to the cave the men were shocked (they were expecting a warm welcome). He yelled at them and told them to get out. Odysseus said that he thought it was the law to welcome your guests with a warm heart. That’s when the Cyclops got angry.
