What We DoCommunity Care
Formative Ministries
Of utmost importance to our urban ministry will be the spiritual formation of future leaders. We will help those with various spiritual gifts identify and
grow in their abilities. Those eligible will be offered internships. This will involve intense mentoring including:
» Minimum 10 hours/week» 2 of those hours spent with mentor» Active involvement in small group» Accountability partner
» Opportunities to lead Bible study» Regular homework and papers
Upon completion of the two-year
internship, participants will have earned the equivalent of an Associates degree in practical ministry.
“There is no successwithout a successor.”
Realizing that a truly effective
ministry is not built solely around onperson or group, it will be importantto reproduce men and women ofcharacter who have the same integrity
instilled in them as those whomentored them.
During Wesley’s time, Whitfield failed
to do this, and remarked that hisfollowers were “a rope of sand.”
It is our intent to train up leaders that
will train others in holiness, lest we“beget children for the murderer.”
Spiritual Warfare
Satanic Deliverance:
» People in the congregation» Those outside of the church
Freedom from Strongholds:
» Trauma» Spirits of sin» Occult issues» Abuse» Torment» Legalism» Illness» Historical issues
Seeking God’s Blessing:
» Business policies» Community & neighborhood» Government programs» Social issues
This is a commitment to holisticministries in our community.
The battle will be in both ground level and strategic spiritual warfare.
We believe the shalom ofGod exercised in the powerof his Holy Spirit transformspeople and societies.
Life Skills / Basic Needs
Skills Training:
» Greater Good – food/clothing» G.E.D classes» Basic computer skills training» English as a second language» Spanish as a second language» Mobile medial clinic partnership
Creative Outreach:
» Community beautification
» Quarterly art shows» Graffiti & mural painting» Tapestry music outreach» Choir performances
» Church radio station
Community Events:
» Coffee house» Softball league» Basketball, slam-dunk competition» Soccer tournament» Career fair» Christian / secular concerts
Local Networking
It will also be important to establish working relationships with local businesses and other churches. For instance, a local business may want to
sponsor one of the sports events, or provide prizes for a slam-dunk competition. This would help bring business on-board with the vision of
the church.
It has been mentioned that the government may try to control
churches through the benefits it can provide. By getting the nearby businesses involved, we could avoid such funding while also incorporating
local people to help each other.
Examples of Partnerships:
» Cell-phone tower built into steeple» Church cafeteria outsourcing
» Car repair for single mothers» Computers donated by companies» Selling advertising on church radio» Pastors giving leadership consulting
» Developing and selling curriculum» Conducting ministry seminars
The above scenarios are all ones
which have been tried and haveworked successfully. We wouldencourage our laity to thinkcreatively, and recognize their God-
given talents for business. We wouldemphasize this as ministry as well.
